Cool, so you could finance the boat with a lien on the USCG documentation, then sell the boat using the MD title without ever paying off the loan. Sounds like a good way to upgrade boats.....
Unlikely that'd work all that often, without some serious work to pull off the fraud.
Even somebody fresh off the turnip truck would probably know (or be told) to do a title search that would include USCG documentation. Especially if the prospective buyer is intending to finance. No state numbers displayed would be a hint, a State sticker acknowledging Federal documentation would be another, and the hard-to-remove Official No inside the boat would be yet another.
