I will either use "pleasure boat" or pleasure craft". Where I did most of my boating, as Steve said, "trawler" was used as a reference to a shrimp boat and M/V was used exclusively by larger commercial vessels. As a matter of fact, all of the commercial boats I worked on had the M/V preceding the name on both sides and stern of the vessel. I dont know of any written guide lines for how this would be dictated, but I'm sure some do exist.
Motor Yacht for me is way out of the question regardless of what the manufacturer says. Donald Trump owns a yacht, Tony B owns a boat - plain and simple. And yes, there are many folks on here that do have what I consider 'yachts' and I think they are worthy of the title "Motor Yacht" and should use that title with pride.
