That's the one I posted just recently - great minds, etc...

What's the forum consensus on the price? $690k seems very steep for a 1991 boat with outdated electronics - maybe double what I would have expected from looking at somewhat comparable DeFevers, OA's, etc. Are these boats really that special? I don't know much about the big MAN V-10's either.

Lol. Brokerage gobblygook. That said she is absolutely a beauty, I love those Lake Washington tugs, and this one steel instead of wood, too.
 
WOW! Only drawback I see is it looks like not full stand up headroom in engine compartment. For me that simply does not work. If it has 6'3" or more height... then it could be a 100% go!

I near had a stroke when I worked out it essentially has 4 x the engine disp that we run , probably cruises at 10 knots so could well burn 160 litres/hour

Add: a further look suggests a lot more again as its likely 8 x the hp

At 1000 RPMs the engine will burn 18.5 gallons of fuel per hour
At 1500 RPMs the engine will burn 40 gallons per hour
At 1850 the engine will burn 49.5 gallons per hour.

So at 1500 rpm its pouring 181 litres a side (362 total) down its throat @ todays price here thats $560/hour on fuel alone

I cant shovel money into the fire that fast

This boat just showed up in our marina last week. I have no idea what it is or where it's made, but it's beautiful in my opinion. Looks a lot like it was styled after the tuna seiners we used to have a lot of around San Diego before they all ran off to Panama.

I want one....

Yes, she is a Defever built in 1983, that is the boat. Got a picture of her today, she is now called Kamahele. Seems like a lot of boat for just under $1M. I would think deep pockets are needed to get her into shape, probably lose those DD's for something a bit more refined.

Really nice expedition vessel. Not exactly the typical "trawler" which most on this forum can swing. Interesting that they installed fishtail wedges on the rudders, considering it's a twin.

Overall the vessel appears to be well cared for, but I'd agree to repower with something more modern.

I don't have a lot of experience, only owned three boats, 1981 Tartan 37; 1932- custom wood Bridgedeck cruiser, and our current 1963 36' Willard motor sailor.


All were suitable for extended cursing at some point. I guess I thought that was just part of the package, at least that's what Ive been telling my wife.
 
Getting back to reality, I have always liked the Grand Banks series, especially the 49 that has a stand up engine room. There are a few of these listed, one in San Diego, the other in NC. It would be nice to find one that someone rejuvenated to the nth degree. This one in SD seems really clean.

I was drooling over that one myself as a worthy upgrade to my CHB 41. I swore no more exterior teak though, and she’s sporting a good deal more than our SEA WOLF…

Okay, and out of curiosity, what’s the price of a brand new 70’ Nordhavn or KK or Fleming? And how many years old would that brand new boat be???
 
Extant examples of 1960's Ferrari Spiders semi-regularly go for tens of millions of dollars, while you can get a brand spanking new Spider for less than $400k from a dealer. Just saying.

I'm not in the market for any of it though if someone gave me that Feadship I'd probably keep it and try to pay the taxes instead of selling.

I had to know and just got this email from the broker. Yikes!

The asking price is 4,995,000.00 Euro which is about $5,600,000.00 dollars.

I was recently on Blue https://www.boatinternational.com/y...age-sales-news/feadship-motor-yacht-blue-sold and it sold for much less. And we sadly did not buy a California Spyder or GTO when they were in the 4 to 7k or even 20k or 2mm range, our oldest being a 71 Daytona. Taxes in SC would be about $17.00 as they tax based on age for cars or boats. Yes, our car taxes are about that, even on the F40 and others.

We like cars, trying to get into boating. Just did www.nwexporations.com and purchased a dock that will take up to 70ft in Harbour Town HHI. Now if we can only find the right boat in a really hot market....thinking of chartering this, inquired today https://ammonitecharters.com to see how we like the Nordhavn, but we don't need anything this large. A perfect 46 or 47 Grand Banks Classic will do just fine although I have always wanted a larger boat. Our slip just had a 65 Fleming (pictured) in it, but that would prob be 3mm plus and we just don't want to spend that kind of coin on a boat. After all it is only just the beginning. Have considered Marlow, Outer Reef, Hampton, Grand Alaskan, Alaskan, Cheoy Lee and Sabre all in the 54 to 65ft range. Will wait for the right boat; truth be told I waited too late even within the last 12 months thinking it would slow down. This is the Marlow we just looked at. Was told really should go for the 1000hp engines if we buy this type of boat. They also have the Hampton.

Nice boat - but - Looks like not a stand up engine compartment. For me that's a complete no-go! In our Tollycraft, with both hatches easily opened in center of salon, gives be unlimited head room while standing on flat grating between her twins. Enables pretty easy access to most portions of equipment; including the gen set and batt bank. That was one of several layout conditions that had us fall in love with our Tolly.

Also, although it seems pretty nice... master state room in bow looks more cramped than the master in stern of our Tolly 34' tri cabin.

I'm amazed these boats can get 3nmpg at 7.5kts with twin 500's - that's better than my 41' trawler with twin FL120's, and gives you ocean crossing range but with the ability to go 18kts if you want to. They don't have stand-up engine rooms but they seem to be well laid out for sitting & provide good access.
 
Love the Fleming 55 - Except... 4' and 5' headroom in ER areas would be a deal breaker for me. That's if, I has $2M hanging around loose to throw at a pleasure boat! with $75 to $100 K annually thereafter for fun and upkeep!!

It's a longer boat than yours. Relative to hull speed, 7.5 kts is fast for a 41 footer (with probably a 35 - 37 foot waterline), but that same 7.5 kts is reasonably slow for a 55 footer with probably a 50-ish foot waterline. Slow your boat down to 6.5 kts or a little less (similar speed relative to hull speed) and I bet your fuel economy will improve significantly.
