Grand Banks 47 Europa
Good Morning -

I have been to four different locksmiths and no one has a blank to make up a key needed to get into my aft slider door on a GB 47 Europa hull #50. I only have one key for the boat and of course yards want one in case of an emergency. Picture of key attached. When I read various key threads on this site I do not get the blank question answered - admittedly I didn't read them all.

Any help in getting blanks would be appreciated.

Bob

I thought fer' sure that would be a Schwepper key (Schwepper is a European outfit that makes a lot of marine hardware), but looking at photos online I see the groove pattern is different.

I do have a couple of leads for you. Borderline International 888-457-0077 and The Brass Works 386-943-8857 are two companies in Florida who import European boat hardware such as cabinet and door locks who might be able to help you. I've dealt with the Brass Works, good folks.

And still the best option if you can get them for $30 from GB. Note that ekeyblanks.com doesn't even list Kroon. I spoke to one of our key makers and asked what he would do in such a case and he said match with the closest he could find and then trial and error which only worked if boat was very nearby. Said he once did it with one that was only one block away and the fifth key he made worked but still recommended replacing the cylinder.

Kroon key Blanks

All - So I have written to both Kroon and Brass Works to see if either can assist. I will let the forum know what I find out. It seem like this should be fairly straight forward but it's for a item on a boat so I will just be patient. have not yet contacted GB.

Hello, Kroon, is from the Netherlands, me too.
The numbers on the key (arount the hole) I think those are important to get new blanks. Could you give this number, I can not read it.
Then i can ask Kroon if they have them and what it wil cost. please send mail to jack@nr17.nl

Well believe it or not the best source I found for getting Kroon blanks for our salon sliding door is GB. They charge $30 per key blank plus a hefty shipping charge to get it from Malaysia to the States. However when I talked to Kroon directly via email they wanted 27Euro + VAT + shipping. Brass works asked me to write an email which I did but never heard back from them. Keys blanks are on their way. Thanks for the suggestions above.
