The piano hinge in the aft locker of my new to me 1997 Camano Troll is jacked. The hatch won't seat properly to seal and water is getting in. Has anyone used a different hinge for this locker other than a piano hinge? If yes, what? Pictures appreciated.

Good, it is always a help to see what exactly we are talking about.

This is hull #5 and has these 2 hinges which work well.

Really?

Islander2017: Thanks for helping our Camano friend. Would be so kind as to post more pics of your hull #5 Camano? So very cool to see one of the first Camanos - Can't wait! It's amazing how well these boats have held value, performed well, and I've never seen one that is not in good shape, nicely maintained. Anything you can share about other Camanos in your area - near the first shop - would be great so we "newbies" - 2005 (#232) purchased in 2017 can see an early one, see how much/little has changed. Engine - 4 cylinder? Hours? Is your boat a 1989 or earlier? How have older boats in your area aged? How has the hull held up against blisters, etc., on older boats? Tips for those of us planning a long ownership period?

Thanks!

Apologize for not responding back sooner. Upon further investigation the gasket thar was installed inside the hatch cover was too thick and everytime the hatch was stepped on it was stressing the piano hinge. Without the gasket, the hatch cover sits flush. Will experiment further to determine what thickness allows the cover to be flush/sealed.

We purchased ours in February 2021 so are also in the newbie category. Larrikin was built in 1990 and is powered by a Cummins 4BT 3.9 litre with 5600hrs. Her hull has held up well and I have only found 1 small dime sized blister during the last haul out. The previous owner had redone the interior just prior to selling so it is in great shape. I don’t have any pictures handy and am 1 week into recovery from a hip replacement so won’t be down to check on her for a little while. I’ll try to remember to take some next time I’m there.
Cheers.
