GCI?! I went to a fishing cabin they had. Ron Duncan took me up at midnight in his Lake Renegade to demonstrate short takeoffs. Bright as day then.

Rules in Mexico are interesting. Enforcement comes and goes. Ensenada is a fairly large bay. There is a rule that whenever you move a boat, you need to inform Trafico Maritimo. As of yesterday its being enforced so when I move Weebles from Cruiseport Marina to the yard in the morning, I request permission on VHF channel 14. Seemed a bit odd, but in reality, no different than when I drove a dinner cruise boat on SF Bay - was required to check in with VTS not just departing, but at a couple points along the route. Wonder if that's still required given advances in radar, tracking, AIS, etc?

I've contacted them three times. Each time they responded in decent English rather than tolerate my awful Spanish. I did have to spell Weebles phonetically (whiskey-echo-echo.....). Also helped that I now know that in Spanish, pronunciation is WHAY-blez.

Upon entering Ensenada, I would hail them and request permission to enter, giving destination port.

In La Paz you are required to notify the port captain when you leave the port area, not when you move between marinas, or get diesel, etc...

Since i have a permenant slip at Marina La Paz all i do is radio the marina that I am leaving doe a few days and they deal with the port captain by sending a list each day of arrivals and departures.
