I wanted to buy/create a transportable pump for my aging father to bail his dinghy

I was assuming a smaller lithium ion battery with a 500GPH pump would be both light and effective for bailing a 12 foot dinghy after it rains.

Budget can be 2-300$ for the battery if needed

It would be carried down to the dinghy and a placed in the lowest part of the boat. I may permanently mount the pump and have leads run up to the edge of the boat.

Any input would be helpful. Especially with the battery selection.

I will be keeping it on a trickle charger in the garage between uses.

Thanks in adavance. I know its not a trawler specific question, but i have found this group to be the most reasonable with design and application of bot related equipment. .

A 500 gph pump will draw about 5 amps and will probably only have to run less than 10 min to pump out a boat after a hard rain.

Almost any battery will work including a 10Ah motorcycle starting battery. I wouldn’t spend the extra bucks for Lithium. An AGM motorcycle battery should work fine for less than $50 and a Noco 1A charger for about $30 will keep it up between uses.
