We have our drum-shaped reflector near the top of the mast.
*Ray, I've always meant to ask you what that barrel was for.

*They're popular on sailboats because they don't foul the sails or the rigging.

We've been told that our signature is quite good. I'm not interested in removing it to find out!

*The million dollar question is...is the reflector the reason for your good signature or a combo of other things?

There's a lot of reflective 'stuff" on boats like ours. Engines and generators, most of which are at least half above the waterline, fuel tanks, water tanks, stoves, refrigerators, propane tanks if the boat is so equipped, dinghy outboards, anchor windlasses, anchors, masts, booms and dinghy davits, radar arches--- the list goes on.

On the occasions we've bothered to look, we seem to get the same strong*returns from power boats that have no obvious radar reflector as we do similar boats that have reflectors. Sailboats seem to be a somewhat different matter, however, although the ones with metal masts usually paint substantial targets.
