You are right Paul. Under international rules of the sea, that is how it goes. If that is not the rule in the US, then it's them that's out of step.

Just signed up ! We are berry interested in timber cruisers and have been cruising he Gipplsland Lakes for a few years now. Just recently refurbished our 40' timber cruiser and looking forward to the warmer weather down south. I'll post some pics when I can get a chance as I know everyone likes photos. I'm looking forward to drilling down into some of the forum threads as anyone with a timber boat knows it's all about maintenance and upkeep and advice and experience from knowledgeable people is crucial. Anyway looks like a great sight and I look forward to getting amongst it and getting yo know you all.

Will do, thanks. just cutting our teeth on the current cruiser with the hope of stepping up to a costal cruiser possibly an ex-trawler conversion or Grand Banks.

The Nimbus inspection went well. Very nice boat. Made an offer which was countered, we then went half way, stalemate.

Meantime, we found a Storebro 435 on the Gold Coast. Did the due diligence, made an offer and we now own a beautiful ship. Much bigger than I anticipated but I have handled her with ease, even had my 1st mate at the helm and she managed to berth her on my jetty at home.
We have had our maiden voyage last weekend to Peel Island, Bribie island and Tangalooma, spread over three days and had a ball. We have all sorts of ideas and dreams about where to go in the future but will keep gaining experience between here and Moreton Bay for a few months yet.
I think I would like to cruise in company first long trip so we will be on the lookout for like minded boaties

Don't recognise the Storebro.
What kind of vessel is it, where made and what engs etc.
Has it got the legs for a coastal cruise etc.
Don't tease us give us pics and info.

I have seen a Storebro online, tried to inspect one in Sydney but the broker was useless. From memory, big interior space, lots of timber inside, elevated helm. How about some pics?
Volvo engines?
I think "Tiku", who recently posted on the "Tolleycraft" thread has one, we were discussing the merits of Folkboat yachts,(major thread drift!).

Hey mate, search the above link for info on the boat. I tried to upload a photo not sure it worked.
It has twin 370hp Volvos, super charged turbos. It gets along ok but is very thirsty when pushed. Most economical and comfortable at 8 - 12knots but will do 30 if I need it.Equiped with everything that opens and shuts and well set up for long cruises.
We have 1000 later fuel capacity, 400 later water & water maker, freezer, etc etc.

Hi Benn,
Storebro are ship builders in Sweeden. They make the larger Nimbus on contract. The Storebro 435 Commander is a quality built ship with plenty of indoor and outdoor space. She has twin Volvo 370 hp super charged turbos and goes pretty quick. Best speed for Eco and comfort is 12 knots
She is well set up for cruising and we plan to be doing plenty over the next few years

Don't want to be too pedantic, but you can have a turbocharged engine, (my car has one), or it can be supercharged, and some are even supercharged and turbocharged...sequentially....but I have never heard of a supercharged turbocharger...just sayin'. Is this the one that was on Boatsonline at the Gold Coast.
Had a look, got a lot of fruit and goodies.
Water maker and all. Should be good.
You will definitely have to go slow cruising up the coast with 1000 lts and the 2 x Volvos.
But everything is doable, enjoy the comforts.

I'm at Paynesville too. Gemma now renamed NightinGayle after my beloved Admiral (although she hates the term). At South Harbour in an along side berth near the ferry. We have a Tradewinds 42 Taiwanese trawler. Fiberglass though so we can't do any direct comparisons to yours. Notwithstanding drop by and say Hi!

Probably not pedantic, but I get your drift. I can only say in my defence, I have never been a petrol head and therefore can only repeat what I was told and it sounded cool to me? Anyway it goes like the powers of piss, super? Turbo? Or whatever. In future if asked I will just refer to them as Volvo 370 hp D6 Penta. How does that sound?

Au Contraire Peter, it is little known that the mighty FL 120hp has a hidden turbocharged supercharger booster switch inlaid into the helm next to the hyperdrive flux capacitor(usually found on the port side) activated by depressing the horn button continuously for 30 seconds prior to leaving your berth.Care must be taken when engaging this as drive shaft damage can result. This feature is mainly used for those who like to water ski behind their CHB's
