Has anyone removed the headliner and painted there instead of having the headliner? Just curious. Trying to figure an option to fixing loose headliner.

On my 400, the surface above was not suitable for painting. We just bit the bullet and replaced the headliner. It's tedious but looks great.

Where did you buy the material for your headliner?

What type of headliner do you have? Is it glued on or does it have the plastic strip that hold it in?

My MS390 does not have any headliner as the previous owner had it removed and had everything polished. very clean look without that crap glued anywhere.

The headliner is held in place by plastic strips.

Interesting. I wonder if the 400 is different than the 350 and 390. Maybe it is a difference in model years. My 350 and my friends 2002/2003 390 both have a single sheet of 'monkey fur' glued to the ceiling. There is no padding underneath.

My friends is starting to hang. Mine looks like it was re-glued. There is nasty dried glue peaking around all of the edges. The exposed sections of ceiling are textured.

Mine is showing some tiny mold 'dots' that I have been cautious in attempting to clean to prevent releasing the adhesive. I would love to remove the headliner and clean it and leave the texture ceiling pan.

Yes, the 400 is different. All 400s have a smooth vinyl headliner held in with strips.
