(Sigh) I have been living/boating in mid coast Maine for 40+ years. Tradition is you pick up a mooring BUT you stay aboard in the event the owner returns. I've been on both sides of the coin and courtesy is the name of the game. Unfortunately more people are discovering the beauty of Maine as many coves that were gunkholes with no moorings now are full of them and mostly unused by the owner. They are there, I think, because new cruisers don't want to wash the mud off the anchor but that's my bias. I would guess as others have mentioned it is either a newbie on the insurance desk or a personal negative event between the servicer and client. Please heed the warning sign when entering Maine...."Maine, the way life should be" Off my soap box, fire away.
