I finished install of a new windlass on my GB32. Interestingly the boat appears to have been pre-wired for a windlass (41 years ago) but has never had one. I was able to use the exiting wiring. The windlass cost $800 and the overall cost was about $1,400. I have only used it a few times but the windlass seems to handle the 35lb anchor and 15 feet of chain with reasonable ease. We will see how the years go. The best part is not having to stuff the rode back in to hawsepipe.

Nice. It sure sits high. Does that affect the straight of the mount?

I positioned it so that the rode travels level with with the roller. The pedestal sets right up to the pulpit so the strength of the pulpit resists the force of pulling of the anchor. I also wanted to be back far enough to have room for my old anchor with its long shank. The pedestal is 3/4 inch marine plywood with a heavy, white oak frame and top.

It would be nice to have self launching anchor with a shorter shank; maybe next year.
