Newbies. Beneteau ST 44, Annapolis

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new boat.
We will probably cross paths on the Chesapeake. We are in Baltimore but spend a lot of time in the Magothy and the middle Bay.

BTW, the Magothy River will be one we will explore this season. Do you have any suggestions for swimming, eating, or other sight-seeing? We draw about 4 feet.

Also, I have met a marina neighbor who is afraid to swim in the bay waters due to fears about a bacteria. Do you have any thoughts about this?

Like I said, we are a nearly a "clean slate".

We have kept a sailboat on the Magothy the past 4 seasons and just move to a trawler this past winter. The best places to overnight are on the north side. If you look at your chart they are Sillery Bay, just behind Dobbins Island, Broad Creek to the west of Sillery Bay (near the futuristic "Glass House"). The most protected and scenic spot to the northeast of Sillery Bay just to the east of Holland Point. Dobbins can be nice during the week, but loud and unpleasant on weekends. All are crowded on weekends. It is a lovely area, and no where as busy as the Severn. A lot of people swim, but swim at your own risk as the most recent river report for 2013 indicated that bacteria levels can be high.

As for restaurants accessible by boat, they are on the south side of the river. Deep Creek Restaurant and Marina on Deep Creek a mile or so in from the river entrance and The Point on Mill Creek at the Ferry Point Marina. The Point is the happen' place and quite nice. Both accessible with 4 ft draft, but easier to get a tie up during the week.
