I am curious to hear more about the dry storage in Anacortes. Have you had experience with launches, holidays, maintenance, flushing the engines, wash downs, etc. Any info on that would be appreciated!

My boat stayed at North Harbor in Anacortes for 8 months during a major refit in 2011-2012.

Most of thr time the boat was being worked on, the rest of the time it was in dry storage. A good FYI is that your boat stays plugged in, allowing you all the benefits of shore power

Launching is quick, easy and cheap. For my size boat >$50 each eay.

They are a full service boat yard, and can literally do anything you want. They did an awful lot of work on my boat and I go to know many of the staff pretty well.

They outsource cleaning activities to a really nice contractor, and can set up a monthly wash schedule for example.

Do they allow you to spray down the boat in your spot? What about mechanical issues like I need to change out a through hull. What did you do to flush the boat? Did you just leave salt water in the boat or can you rig fresh water to the diesels and start the boat in your slip? This would make me pretty uncomfortable but I am curious if it can be done? What about running the generator?

There are two types of lifts to get your boat out of the water. Two straps and a Travel Lift which scoops your boat up from the bottom on a massive mover. I prefer the Travel Lift boat with no swaying around. I know Banana Belt Boat has two of these Travel Lifts and they have dry storage. Plus they launch and hold the boat in their private slips they own behind their business. No long docks to walk to load up and to me that is huge. I think North Harbor Diesel does also but not sure where they launch the boats. There is such a severe shortage of moorage in and around Anacortes, dry storage is a nice option if not preferred. Blaine to Everett 5-10 year wait list for moorage. You can always stay in a marina as a guest but that would end up costing about 3,000 month. Suggest dry storage and dropping an anchor when out. Happy boating......

I had our boat there for a year in 2020-2021. It's a good deal, at the time it was $250/month and $150 round trip for launch and retrieve. The staff was good and they let me get away with some things that weren't really allowed, like flushing and washing the boat. They say you can't work on things under the waterline, but on weekends no one was around and no one seemed to care. I did a lot of stuff under the boat but was careful not to make a mess. When I needed some mechanic help to remove a prop and check a shaft it was done very reasonably.
They have a hydraulic lift trailer (several actually) and launch down a ramp near the yard.
The only downside is it can be a bit dusty so your boat needs a good wash when launching.
If I ever had a boat up there again this would be the first place I would go.

There are four or five dry storage yards in Anacortes, and many of the yards will pull your boat and put it in any one of them. By travel lift or hydraulic lift. Another option is in Sidney, BC, VanIsle marina has an excellent dry storage facility. The only problem with it is the WA state ferry is down and won't be coming back until 2030 by their estimate, if ever.

A minor correction to eliminate confusion. The two strap type is the travel lift. Banana Belt and North Harbor use the Sea Lift self propelled hauler.

The Sea Lift is a type of hydraulic trailer, but is the easiest of the type on your boat. The ones with arms and pad can be misused, and put a flat spot in the hull. The Sea Lift cradles the boat on 4 large pneumatic tubes and is very kind to the bottom. Only disadvantage is there is a larger area untouched by the pressure wash.

The SeaLift might be a problem if you have stabilizers.

FYI, this is a 10 yr old thread that was resurrected.

Yes, an old thread indeed. However the equipment used by North Harbor and Banana Belt is current having used both yards in the past year.
