I really did not want to purchase a dehumidifier for my boat for a number of reasons:
1) Didn't want to mess with emptying water tank or finding one that had a hose that would drain to my sink
2) Space is valuable and didn't want a bulky item on the boat.

3) Not sure where I would keep it while using the boat and having people onboard.

4) What happens if there is a wake or surge and it falls over.

After some research, started thinking an air dryer may be the way to go. In the end I settled on the Davis Instruments 1000 for $67.

I have to say it has done an amazing job and it is night and day difference since I have started using.

No fan = no noise
Compact enough, that it fits in a drawer. Out of the way!!
My boat is dry, no mildew and not getting any condensation.

Hope the above helps anyone who is also trying to make a choice.

So leave a light on. Not going to do much in FL humidity.

Air Dryers may work ok in areas with modest humidity. They lack the ability to reduce elevated levels of humidity quickly and in environments of high to extreme humidity, they aren't able to make a significant difference.

I've found that a traditional apartment size dehumidifier does an exceptional job and can easily be set on a counter to drain into a sink. Many now have humidistats that shut down the fan as well as the compressor. Also, they can be setup on a timer if you prefer to only have them run a portion of the day. I do this to keep humidity low in my Florida garage.

OC Diver & mike66,

I should have added, based on where I am located on the West Coast of the US. If you live in an area with similar humidity as we have here in Northern CA, an air dryer may be all you need. Simply relaying my experience.

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts for the Florida region.
