Started another project today. Our windlass slips when paying out chain. When it does this you have to bump the chain up for a second and then it will let chain out. It has been getting progressively worse over the last few years.
I had to pull the bow pulpit to get access.
I am having trouble separating the lower gear and motor assembly from the upper unit and shaft.
The gear/motor unit should just slide off the shaft. I am soaking things with Kriol penetrants overnight. Tomorrow I will try a puller and bigger hammers.

Any advice or experience with this job would be appreciated.View attachment 141662View attachment 141663View attachment 141664View attachment 141665 PXL_20230822_172440909.jpg

Yup, if it doesn’t fit don’t force it, get a bigger hammer. I was trying to get the core out of one of my aftercoolers. I tried all the corrosion breakers that I have. Tried pressing it out with my tools. Finally took it to a machine shop and they pressed it out. It took 13 tons of pressure to get it out.

Lewmar got back to me on part availability. They don't have any compatible parts for the motor/gear assembly for the Ocean 1 model. It was 21 years old. New Lewmar V2 ordered. Drop a couple more boat bucks in the water.[emoji23]

That is what is great about boating, it will get rid of all that excess money that is laying around in the way…
