Hello,

We are considering selling our 1981 40' C & C. She is now located in Centre Island, NY (was in Buzzards Bay for years) and is in good shape. Given a value of 45kish, I am thinking she may not be of interest to yacht brokers. So I am thinking of putting it on Boat Trader and Sailing Anarchy. My son is close by so showing should not be an issue.

Any better strategies out there from you ex-sailor (presuming you sold your sailboat), now trawler-owner-types?

Thanks in advance.

There are always brokers that will take any listing. They may not be the creme de la creme, but I think you are missing a big audience by not being on YachtWorld. I just did a quick scan on YW (sailboats 39-41', 1979-1981 in US) and there are 37 listed. You could be one of them. Might be worth spending some research time finding an appropriate broker.

Otherwise, your two outlets are probably your best choices.

I sold mine on Craigslist. It took 7 hours. Think I priced it too low?

Judy...thanks. Seem to get a bit of traction and the brokers do not follow-up. I get it. Will plan on Boat trader etc...

Just about everything that is for sale is on facebook market place.

I listed my 1985 Endeavour 38 several years ago on Craigslist and had a For Sale sign on the boat. A couple saw the sign and asked where I had it listed. After I told them they commented that Craigslist is so passe and I should use Facebook Marketplace. My daughter helped me join Facebook and post the ad. A couple weeks later a couple showed interest and after they looked at another boat, they bought mine.

I am now buying a Trawler and moving South for a longer season and the ability to leave the boat in the water for the winter. We are actively selling no longer needed items on Craigslist and Marketplace. We have had more success with Marketplace, but I would put you boat on both. Afterall they are free. We also listed our Endeavour on an Endeavour owner's website for a nominal charge.

After 35 years of ownership, it was hard to put her up for sale. We decided to give ourselves one year to sell our Endeavour, before turning her over to a broker. The boat was in the water, and we enjoyed using her. The couple that bought the boat were new to sailing. They had her surveyed with a quick haul and sea trial. Since it was already late October and we were also in Buzzards Bay, we transferred ownership, and I set sail and picked them and their belongings up in Conn. We then cruised together down to Atlantic City where I wished them Bon Voyage. It was a win-win for both of us.
