Now I am rethinking the idea of shipping.
Sailing on my own makes more sense. However the fuel prices, the route ( NA/Hawaii/Asia = 10-12K nm ), hiring and accommodating a crew, solo difficulties, etc., makes me change my plans. I think it is better to sell the boat here. My boat was designed for the PNW. It is perfect to run it between Seattle-Puget Sound, maybe Alaska. Also an excellent live aboard for a couple or a small family. It is not the best design for rough waters in a transoceanic crossing.
I will possibly sell it and try to buy something in Asia to go around for few years. This is a retiree’s dream for decades, so I do not want to give it up.

Also think about RORO car carriers. We shipped that way and just had to take down the targa/radar bar. There's more of them, they are used to odd items, and your boat is entirely inside for the journey. NA to Asia may be advantageous as well since the majority of cargo would be in the opposite direction I imagine.

Another thing to think about with your boat in Asia is how comfortable it will be in extreme heat. Boats designed for Alaska can be sweat boxes in the tropics. I talked to a guy with a really cool aluminum motor sailer that had this problem when he took it to Hawaii. It was not an easy problem to fix as the design of the house, and opening ports was not set up for tropical weather. He had brought the boat back to BC, and was going to sell it, and buy something better for warm weather to continue his circumnavigation.

Just to help out others on a decision making like this, I received a quote today from the shipping company which was recommended here. They would ship my boat from Vancouver BC to Singapore for 109K US. Price subject to change.
My boat is 54 feet long and 32 tons empty. Since my insured value is 160k, it is obvious that I will not ship it. I will sell it and buy something in Asia. No more dilemma…..

Well, I thought shipping costs would become the big factor, but didn't realize how much they've risen.

What, you don’t have a spare $109K laying around??? Wow, that is very steep. Good new plan. Hope it works out for you.

I had to double check as our shipment home from Italy was about 4800 nm and I see this from BC to Singapore is about 7600. I think it also goes up a bit because of the number of stops on the way.
