Decided not to shrink-wrap this winter but want to cover some sensitive areas with plastic. Looking for tape that would adhere to gelcoat (smooth areas, not nonskid parts) over the winter and still come off in the spring w/o coming apart or leaving adhesive behind. Recommendations appreciated.
Thx -

Best tape for that I know of is shrink wrap tape.

It is sometimes called preservation tape. West Marine should have it.

Clarification....

There are two types of tape:

Shrink Wrap Tape

Preservation Tape.

The look and feel similar, but act different. Preservation Tape can be stuck to surfaces other than shrinkwrap and be removed without any residue or damage.

I've used preservation tape to seal cabin doors and locker hatches shut. I've done this when I took down canvas in preparation for a hurricane. i'll also do it when I remove my canvas in the fall, before the boat is shrink wrapped.

What you're looking for is Preservation Tape. It should have the type of tape printed on the inside of the cardboard roll in most cases.

I worked in a lot of places that shrink wrapped and that tape stuck fine to smooth gel coat and doesn't leave residue of any significance after over a year.

I have been using a giant roll given to me for over a decade for all kinds of applications.

I recommended it because it does work closely to what the op asked for...best I could think of but seems preservation tape is one step better.

I never even heard of preservation tape so I learned something new. :thumb:

Here is a decent blurb on the comparison....
