Has anyone shipped a boat from say Corpus Christi to a port on the Sea of Cortez?

I have a Ranger Tug 29S which is trailerable with permits. Size wise, easily doable.

What I'm curious about is shipping across Mexico.....

Crazy idea?

thanks,

Dave

I am told there are a LOT of boats shipped to San Carlos, near Guaymus MX. I looked into getting my Willard 36 there once - she's not easily trailerable. Best I could tell, it's actually two shipments. One on the US side to Tuscon AZ where your boat will be transferred by crane to a Mexican trucker who then hauls 350 miles to San Carlos.

In theory, pretty straight foward. But you really need serious due diligence as there are a number of items that can happen during trucking. Attached picture is a Formula 41-footer I saw in a boatyard 2-weeks ago that had somehow become detached from its trailer. Insurance is notoriously absent when bad things happen during shipping. That said. vast majority of shipments go without a hitch.

just tow it yourself. i trailered my 30x10 to baja many times. no one asks any questions about the size etc.

Years ago it was common for Florida and Gulf sellers and dealers to run boats on their bottoms to Brownsville/Port Isabel TX then truck to Ensenada. This was a route to avoid state overload permits and route restrictions ( time & $$$ ). Mexico had none back then and the haul was like two days. These guys had it figured that the trucking cost was only a fraction of an interstate move and the fact that certain boat values in California were 10-20% higher to offset expenses by a profit taking margin. Even Hatteras was doing this with larger used boats.

Trailer to Mexico

Try Salvador Cabralles. He has a very nice triple axle trailer and just hauled three sailboats. One to Conneticut! Licensed, bonded, insured. Arizona State Grad. He and his family own The Cabralles Boat Yard in Puerto Penasco. Salvador.Cabrales@asu.edu
