Nancy and I join our fellow Americans tomorrow and each day thanking them for their service and sacrifice for our Great Country. Some gave their life, others limbs ,others their mental state, ALL sacrificed something for America. We honor, appreciate, and thank you and yours on Veterans Day and each day.
With love and respect, John and Nancy

In Australia it`s honored as Remembrance Day. Armistice Day,11th hour of 11th month of November. The end of WW1.
Australia celebrates ANZAC Day, April 25, to a greater extent.
At the Villers Bretonneux Memorial in France, there are rows of WW2 headstones, mostly Australian, but many Canadians as well. Australian forces liberated the town from the invaders. Around the town there are welcoming signs saying to never forget Australia, accompanied by drawings of kangaroos. Perhaps the Canadians were involved too.

What do veterans day and remembrance day have in common?

Veterans.

Thank you.
It early and maybe I am reading this wrong...but my quick answer is that in the USA.... Nov 11 is Veterans Day (which has been called Armistice Day and I think is related to Remembrance Day).... it is to celebrate all veterans emphasizing the ones who returned from the Great War.

Memorial Day (first Monday in Sept) is to remember our fallen soldiers.

Thanks to all those who faithfully served. Remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks for acknowledging vets.

When I was a kid, 11 November in the US was indeed Armistice Day. Strictly to honor WWI. Since there were two endings to WWII (VE Day, 8 May; and VJ Day, 15 September) it made setting a date to memorialize things a bit difficult, but everyone felt there should be some recognition. The role of the USA was much greater in WWII than WWI, three years versus 18 months, to say nothing of the losses In the 1980s, I believe, Congress changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day in honor of all verterans, all wars and conflicts. Separately we have Memorial Day (30 May) to honor the dead of all our wars and conflicts. Veterans Day is one of the few holidays that is memorizlized on the actual day, not the Monday or Friday so all the federal employees can have a long weekend.

It's not just federal employees that take advantage of national days of recognition.

I was proud to serve in the US Navy Submarine Service and make 7 war patrols.
Your ‘thank you’ makes it all worthwhile.

Are any of those recognized by the VFW? I have a bit of a beef on what classifies as a foreign war.

During WW2, the VFW had a saying, “Dogs and sailors keep out.” I understand it is not longer enforced. I am a life member Submarine Sailors organization. No buildings, no bars. When joined, I promised to never show up to meetings.
I had enough meetings when I worked.

Never knew the VFW to post that... but know they are sometimes hardline about the qualification to be eligible.

It was WW2, before my time but…..
The VFW was a reaso to drink. THAT part has changed

Veterans Day established 1954, Memorial Day last Monday in May, and VFW has clear eligibility requirements. All veterans are now eligible for American Legion. Take care fellow veterans and thank you to those expressing their gratitude.
