Tile Countertop Question

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I have done quite a bit of tiling and large tiles are problematic with air bubbles or gaps underneath. Because of it size, shape and rigidness any air bubbles or gaps or gaps in the adhesive will not squish out like rolling a carpet out. The air gets trapped and they become hollow spots.

We backed away from tile because of the inherent flexing with boats. We chose Corian for the galley and master head, eliminating the fiddles on the inner edges. (We just don’t cook when underway or it’s rolly at anchor.) The local counter shop installed the galley and I did the head. The forward head, where we needed all the weight we can get, is quartz (again, installed by a pro). The pix are at near-finished stages.

Peter, were your posts structural? I don’t think this is. It’s quite loose and does not go through the counter or have much support under it. I think it’s purely decorative.

Have some diy skills but might have friend who’s a pro cut it.

A lot of decisions to make!.

Maybe have someone walk on the topsides where the compression post is mounted and see if there’s much movement or the post gets tighter.
It’s pretty close to the knee and overhead beam so maybe you’re right about it being decorative. It looks rather awkward there though, and I can’t imagine someone putting it there unless it was needed.
It’s close to the corner of the cabinet, so will get some structural benefit from that, and if there’s a support under the cabinet/sole, the load gets transferred down to that.
As has been mentioned, it is a convenient grab bar when things get sloppy, especially for someone too short to easily reach the ceiling mounted rail.
Personally, I’d remove it if there’s no structural benefit.

I don't think they are structural. One was original, and I added the second one. They are good handholds. Overhead on Willard 36s is pretty low so handrails are a bit tight. I wish I had a picture handy - the polished stainless looks sharp.

I ended up just getting Rissco Fabrication in Warren, RI to put in Corian countertops. Came out great! See attached. Installed the sink today but need to do a better bead with the silicone. New stove and fridge going in.
