I have been trying to decipher the Canadian requirements for delivering my new boat to Alaska and it is quite confusing. It seems that it is allowed as long as you don’t make landfall at any point. Does anyone know if refueling will be allowed? I need only one stop in Port Hardy but it isn’t clear if that is allowed. After trying to make telephone contact with anyone there who count clear up the matter I am resorting to trying to figure it out on my own. Anyone know for certain what the situation is?

Even if you pass all the below, the bottom line is the Local Canadian Custom Officer has the the final say as to whether you are allowed to Transient or not. Take Sea Ventures advise. Also keep in mind all this can change over night.

Take a look at the following:

We couldn't find that Web page (Error 404) - Travel.gc.ca

COVID-19: Travel, testing and borders - Travel.gc.ca

Reporting requirements for private boat operators

Sea Venture went to Alaska in 2020 and are returning to Washington this summer. Send them an email on any questions.

Thanks for the reply SD. I am a Canadian resident in AK for the warmer months. They can’t refuse me entry but they can force me to quarantine for 14 days on the boat or in a hotel if they choose. I am trying to determine if that is likely and if refueling is going to be a problem. I have been vaccinated but apparently that doesn’t help.

I will make contact with SV and thanks for the information.

As of right now, there are no restrictions in Alaska.

FWIW I finally reached someone who shed light on the transit situation. Apparently there are no hard and fast rules. If you show up at the Canadian border checkin with a vessel that is not, in their opinion, capable of making the trip without a stop you MAY be refused. However, if you are forced to take on parts, fuel or water and do not leave the vessel except to add fuel/water you will not be sanctioned. So, no food stops and no beer runs or you will have to quarantine for 14 days. This person also claims that boats are monitored by their AIS and “other means”. It seems that it may be workable.
