Hi All! We are planning on making a trip from Annapolis to Boston in our Cheoy Lee trawler. We recently just had an engine rebuilt and while we will be going easy on her and have the luxury of taking our time heading up, we are still a little nervous. We’ve just spent the last 16 months completing a refit. We’re not new to boating or making long journeys (we’re both merchant mariners) but it feels like we’re fish out of water because it’s our “baby”. Wondering if anyone else on here is going to be traveling northbound within the next 2 weeks? We plan on leaving edgewater Md July 24-26, weather dependent, and expect it to take us 8-9 days to get to Salem, Ma. Would be awesome if we could tag along for someone’s leg here or there!

Enjoy. Easiest way in my view is C&D, Delaware, outside coast of NJ, East river, Long Island sound, block island sound, buzzards bay, cape cod canal, mass bay, Boston, Salem.

Take your time lots of fun places along the way. In my view the two “get her done” legs are the Delaware and NJ. The rest is great cruising.

Have done it entirely on the outside as a straight shot. Not as much fun and Annapolis is far enough up the bay you don’t save that much except for running constantly.

Might want to stop in Hingham and use the ferry to see Boston. Just easier. Go outside buzzard bay to see the islands and come back in at Quicks or more likely woods hole to get to the CCC. Do like cuddyhunk/ hadleys as stops if you don’t want to spent time in MV and Nantucket. Worth stopping in P’town and it adds little to distance traveled. If you skip Boston it’s actually a bit faster getting to Salem.

Lots a people do this trip. Use your AIS/VHF and it’s not unlikely you can chat with someone to buddy boat with you on each leg.
