Wifey B: Wasn't it just super fun and not a huge place but a one of a kind and so very much history. We enjoyed our day in Syracuse but the museum was what made us travel there and we were all so happy we did. You and your friends clearly enjoyed it too.

Our next, immediate voyage will be ---FIJI -to- New Zealand--- in about 3 weeks time. We arrived Viti Levu last week, and will heading up to Savu Savu next week. For those of you who are interested, I've finally updated our website which includes our time in the Cook Islands. Link is here
Here's one photo and a short video I shot this weekend. I'd like to be able to say the whole weekend was like the video but it wasn't. Close, but not quite. The wind picked up a bit Sunday night as a storm passed us by, but other than that it was darn near perfect: 75*, almost no wind, no clouds except that storm cloud, clear skies, etc.
The next voyage by our new-to-us boat it will make alone. From Northern Ireland by truck to Southampton then by ship to New Zealand. It is our Nimbus 380 Commander, moved soon after its Swedish "berth" to the fresh water of Lough Erne.
Some may remember our search including Nordic/American tugs (earlier this year). We will be exploring the North East coast of NZ for the next few years. Lots to see and experience. Can hardly wait! ... G
Congratulations. There is the occasional Nimbus here, relatively rare. I remember another TFer looking at a local one. Volvo engines? Looks to have a nice turn of speed. Did you make the journey to check it out? I`ve seen interior pics, very nice, spacious, accommodating.
Thanks Bruce. No we haven't checked it out personally, much as we would have liked to.
This would obviously have been the sensible thing to do but logistically impossible.
We utilised Irish Rambler's contacts in Northern Ireland for which we owe him a debt of gratitude. Though there are none of this model in NZ we have looked at two of the brand (not for sale) and were extremely impressed with the build quality. This was a unique opportunity for several reasons.
Having spent most of its life in a small body of fresh water (hence low hours even for Europe) and owned by a family business with their own marine service department, we are convinced it meets the description of "immaculate". We have also spoken to a contact (also with a service wing) who knows the boat well and was very glowing in his report on its condition.
It has twin Volvo KAMD 43P 230hp engines on "V" drives under the cockpit which seem quite accessible. This allows the saloon to be dropped with steps up to the raised separate pilothouse and a flying bridge to be incorporated while still having a low centre of gravity.
According to figures we have seen it should have an economical hull speed of about 6.8 knots and a good fast planing cruise of 18 knots. WOT about 26 knots.
We should have it here by late spring in time for the good cruising/fishing weather.
Cheers, G
