I am trying to find out information about this group that publishes a directory of member yacht clubs. They state that member clubs offer reciprocity to other member clubs.

What else do they do and what benefit would a yacht club receive if they joined...besides having a listing in their book?

It allows the club members to utilize other clubs faculties while they are traveling. This can be by boat or other means. The YCoA list gives the clubs faculties that are available for use. When we take a trip back east we often stop at clubs for a drink and or dinner. Last year on a 4 month car trip we stopped at 12 different clubs across the country. While boating many clubs wave docking fees ect.

Why would not a membership in a recognized yacht club work as well? Say any one of the FCYC clubs in Florida.

When you go into a club in many cases they ask for your card and then pull out the YCoA membership book. If your club is not listed, well you get idea.

I guess things must be different in the PNW. Out here if you're a member of a YC and you need recip moorage all that's needed is to show your current membership card and fly a burgee while at their docks.

Usually the first 2 days are free (you pay for power at most clubs) and you're allowed a certain number of free nights per year. That works if you're traveling so you can stop on the way out from your home port and again on the way home.
