    Lower priced AC Soft Start

I purchased a 2500w inverter generator last year. Op tested it yesterday for the 1st time on my 5th wheel's Dometic roof AC. I have a similar roof AC on my 28' trailer trailer. I plan to use the genset on the boat when cruising. As expected when I turned on the AC it's compressor bogged down the...

    Rearming an inflatable PFD

I have maybe 1/2 dozen clunky/gumby West Marine life vests on board. We do not wear them underway. I am considering inflatable vests. If I remember correctly neither the Admiral nor I has accidentally gone overboard in 30 years of boating. As age advances I think wearing an inflatable would be...

    Red Rover

I was impressed when I saw this lady. Having a late lunch at Corky Bells in East Palatka Fl on the St. Johns River earlier in the week. Never spoke with the owners so if you are around chime in, please.

    Gulfstar MK II available

I am treading on dangerous ground here but the lines of this boat really gets me. It is a Gulfstar Mk II 43'. 2 Perkins diesels. It has what I believe is called a bilge keel. Don't know the year. Early 80's? Stated "Project" but was running 2 years ago when put on the hard. Splash is paid for...

    Murder City

I suppose this is a good sub forum to ask my question. Members of a facebook group, Bahamas Land and Sea are stating there have been 19 murders this January in Nassau/New Providence. I have not found this alarming number of murders reported any where else. Any comments?

    Continental Divide

Hope my question fits here. Does any one know the furthest west you can navigate a trawler from the Mississippi towards the continental divide? I am assuming it is somewhere up the Missouri. Maybe not.

    Louis & Toby in Canada

They are dogs. If transiting the Soo locks and we decide to tie up and look around Sault Ste Marie Ontario, I know we (people) have to clear customs/immigration but what is required of our dogs beyond their vaccination documentation? Or maybe stopping there is not worth the time? Thanks.

    Propane On DEmand Water Heater

I removed the rusted out water heater from the engine space. I want to replace it with a Campulux 10L/min outdoor portable mounted on the bulkhead. Concern is the propane exhaust. I imagine that with Navy showers the unit would be on for around 60 seconds per shower. Would the exhaust be a...

    Float plan

After reading today's USCG feed about rescuing 3 fisherman off the Dry Tortugas and being reminded to file a float plan I started thinking. A Search of this forum came up with 2 posts both over a decade old. One had a link to an online service site no defunct. Is there a replacement? Any...

    LiFePo house battery

Thought this would be simple but not as far as finding help. Maybe I am making it more complicated then it is? I want to change my house bank, 2 6v golf cart batteries to 1 100 AH LiFePO battery w BMS. My 50 year old trailer trawler has a 35 amp Prestolite alternator (original). The...

    Acosta Marine

in Welaka FL on the St. Johns has closed. It has been at least a year since we drove down CR 309 to Georgetown. We stopped at Acosta Marine and yesterday there was nair a boat in the marina. EPIRB and AIS

About to purchase our 1st EPIRB. I see some are advertised with AIS. Our boat does not have AIS and don't plan on purchasing a unit. I understand an AIS has to be registered with some gov't agency? So of what use is an EPIRB w AIS in my situation? or is it an additional expense? Thanks

    Soo locks

Has anyone locked through Sault Saint Marie on the Canadian side? If so did you clear immigration or was is it considered right of passage? At this time not planning on going ashore or anchoring. I have been through the Canadian locks on the tour boat from across the river. No immigration...

    EPIRB search

Relatively new here. Logged in. I went to the Classified (not Boats) forum to look for an EPIRB. Clicked "Search this forum". Entered "EPIRB" Selected "Search entire post". Clicked "Search". Results came back as nothing. I find that hard to believe. What am I missing? Thanks.

    Bravo Zulu USCG

I receive a daily email feed from the USCG 7th District South Florida. Daily it is 200 Cuban nationals interdicted at sea and repatriated, 150 Dominicans, 100 Haitians, etc etc. These men are doing a yeoman's job securing our southern sea border from illegal aliens. My respect for them has grown...
