Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

Apparently yesterday there was a barge that struck a bridge support on Arkansas River OK. No structural damage.

G captain... high pressure gas line under M/V DALI halts debris removal.

Good news from Baltimore. A 35 foot deep channel will probably open this week. 300' wide; I'm thinking tugboats will be involved.

We recently stayed at a very interesting hotel in Savannah, GA and noted that tugs escorted ships that cross under the bridge there. Check out this hotel when visiting, good use of an old power plant.

It is also relatively narrow there when looking at these ships, and the bridge will have to be replaced at a cost of up to one billion due to the new and next generation cargo ships.

The tugs pictured appear nowhere near powered enough to have any effect if needed....perhaps others for the purpose are nearby?

It’s interesting that the Chesapeake over all, and Baltimore in particular don’t have VTS

Don't be fooled by the looks of those tugs. They are state of the art tractor tugs ,very capable ship assist boats

If you are discussing the tug in post #95, the Moran tractor tugs in Savannah have between 5100-6500hp each.

They do a pretty good job of nudging the big boys around.
