Newby kills batteries, locks self out of ER

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

I thought I would conclude this thread with latest: flooded batteries are going to be a no-go for me. I tried to check and water but it's just too difficult to see and reach. The few cells I got a hydrometer on seemed OK but I'm folded like a pretzel, splashing acid, trying to read (where I need good glasses and light in the best conditions). So I'm not going to sleep well if I don't properly maintain the FLA, or I'm not going to enjoy my boat if I try to properly maintain them, and I'm way too cheap to pay somebody else to do it.

I do appreciate all the good advice and have learned a bit - but I'm clearly a candidate for AGMs even if it's another unplanned $boat unit on this year's tab.
