Hi Trawler Forum community, I own a 2005 42’ NP that was purchased 2 years ago. I’m in Bellingham Wa, and put the boat into charter so i could get moorage in town. My anchor platform had water penetration, and the charter company did the repair (I will post pictures of the invoices for work performed, this cost me about $25,000 Argghh). They completely rebuilt the core, windless, fiberglass. Now, my anchor platform is showing cracks above and below the seam, all the way down the platform. I do have a new anchor, 55lb Vulcan. The charter company wants to re-seal all penetrations and fill the cracks. I’m wondering if that is an effective repair for this issue, thinking it might be flexing and need something for weight distribution. Lots of photos to follow. Please don’t tell me how bad I got ripped off here…i just need to get it right. I appreciate any help in understanding the work performed and repair. Thank you!

I really cannot tell from the photos if this is structural or cosmetic. I can say at $115 per hour their labor rate is very reasonable. I would just try to get a very clear description from the yard of what they believe led to the cracking and assurances that their proposed repair will prevent it from reoccurring.
 
One other thought. You mentioned boat is in charter. I suspect the operators don't follow best practices. They probably don't deploy a bridle to distribute load. They also likely just use the brute force of the windlass to retrieve vs. motoring over the anchor. That is a lot of stress.
 
Surely the charter company who did the $25K rebuild has some responsibility here when their rebuild fails so broadly so soon. And if the platform was damaged by a charterer, and it`s not due to the quality of the rebuild, why didn`t they see the damage and bill the charterer?
 
I would definitely find a different company to do repairs in the future.
 
Provide a set of snubbers/bridle and demand in the contract that charterers send the charter company a photo of it in use when anchoring. Yeah, there are ways to cheat that, but the emphasis on the issue will be noted by all concerned. I hope your issue is just cosmetic.
 
Anyway,
You need to fiberboard and reinforce the base of the windlass
