On forums I have always included my first name.
I have to ask why many/most do not want to share/be called by name in replies.
Care to share why you do or do not share your first.

Never thought about it. It just defaulted to my email name which was set up in the late 80’s. In those days only geeks were on the internet and no one used real names.

I never use real names on the interwebs.....and I never use the same handle on different sites......you would be surprised how much of a profile can be built on a person by piecing together bits and pieces of information posted on forums.

In my eyes the fact that you use your first name adds credibility and sincerity to your contributions.

Thought boat name might be more recognizable.

I never really thought about it. Since my first name sounds the same with only a letter, I just left it that way.

I used my initials back in the day and have kept it the same on multiple forums. Creature of habit I guess.

I have a distinct lack of paranoia. I just don't worry about it.

No worries. Thanks to all that replied.
It is just a curiosity, no right way, first name or forum handle will do.

Greetings,
Mr. SK. I prefer to stay semi-unanimous.

You slept in AGAIN. It is noon already
My wife fell asleep while drinking her coffee the other day. I tell her she is getting old…

Today is our 53rd anniversary. I tell her she has a good thing going so don’t mess it up now.

I use my actual name on this forum, I am only on one other message board, a college football forum, and on that one I use something different, I read it a lot but don't post much. My only other form of social media is Strava, which is a running/cycling crowd sharing ap, everyone uses their real names there.

I dunno why I use my real name here, I just do it. I honestly am just fine with anyone who cares to finding out who I am. Heck, I've given my cell number to a few posters on here, it always works out with gaining a new friend.

If some government or organization wants to build a profile on me based on my posts here, they can go for it. They will find out that I have an obsession with old boats and was once dumb enough to dump bleach in my diesel tank.

I really don’t think anyone is hiding their name as if you tap on anyone’s avatar then tap what opens and scroll left you get an “About” tap. Open that and you can read all of the info that the person cared to share when they signed up.
For example RTF’s first name is No.
I would not be happy with my mother if she did that to me!

FYI there are multiple ways to include " handle* as well as actual name...
Many like me use boat name as our TF username when registering.
The other opportunity is to set up a "Signature" that gets included automatically with each post.
My signature is below and includes a link to my Bacchus website I refer many other Mainship owners to for MS info and some of my projects. It saves many replies with specific project or other topic details that might be of interest to others.

Including boat make, year, model provides context to questions & answers that are frequently helpful or required.

Greetings,
Mr. L. As I posted previously, the re-furb of the TF website sorta messed up my bio. I'll have to fix that some day.
Edit. Just looked. No idea how to change things (no edit profile button I could see) so NO it is! Maybe short for No Comprende? THAT would fit...

Yeah, RTF I remember in a different thread you had made that fix up commitment.

In this instance I was simply using you (as others frequently do) as an example.

Hope all is well with you and yours in the vicinity of Long Island this Labour Day weekend, enjoy.

Doug,

What was the reason for the "bleach" ?
Did it work?

RT... Unanimous?
You must mean ANONIMOUS.?
Spell check strikes again

Nope. Unanimous….
I don't get it... Confused?... can you explain?
I figured the previous TF profile was an effort to obscure the real RTF... aka remaining anonymous.
How does a one-off, obscure profile fit unanimous?
