As usual, my simple job of rebuilding my Wagner 701 pump hit a snag. I've rebuilt a few series 700's but no 701.
My problem is I don't know how to remove the ring that holds the 2 halves of the pump together. It has 2 holes, 1 on each side, that appear to be where a set screw should be but it's just an indentation. At first I thought about drilling them out but decided that is foolish.
I know several sailors here have rebuilt a 701 and would very much appreciate you sharing the secret of removing the outside ring.
Thanks

I believe it takes a pin wrench like a deck cap.

Lepke, does it screw on?

I got my spanner wrench from Groco. I believe that is what Groco calls it. Looks just like Lepkes photo.

Here is a PDF of the 700 series pump. Includes a parts diagram.
I see you got your answer, it unscrews.
You can get a pin wrench at any good tool supply, some better autoparts stores.
The picture is a deck fill wrench, but I use it on other things because of the adjustability.

OK, got it, thanks to you folks. I took a flat bar, drilled & tapped it, threaded in 2 screws and was able to screw the back off by putting the screws in the mounting holes. I could see then that I wouldn't be able to put it back together that way because I didn't want anything to spin but the ring so I revamped my tool by grinding down a 5/16" bolt to fit the indent on the ring, bent the end of the flat bar in a rough curve and threaded my blot in the hole. This worked fine and I didn't have to buy a one use tool.
This rebuild was a surprise find while doing another job so I ordered my rebuild kit from Hamilton Jet, the supplier recommended by Wagner to get it fast. The kit cost $86 and consisted of 8 o-rings, a seal and a cork gasket but no directions. I've since found kits at half the price.
