Waiting until January We will re-launch at St. Marys Boatyard in mid January after painting the house and fly bridge. Using Alexseal... Wish me luck. We are also adding A/C for the warmer months. We will then head south to Jax, turn right into the St. Johns and make our way to Sanford. After...

    Changing Primary filter Fuel Location

Tator, we have a single Ford Lehman 90 with the stock engine driven fuel pump. This pump is still in service pumping to the high pressure pump. We have a recently installed top draw plastic tank from Moeller. The tank is only 12 inches tall. The outlet of the Racor is about 12 - 15 inches above...

    Changing Primary filter Fuel Location

We have a Lehman 90 with Racor 500 filters. The convienient location for the filters is under the pilot house floor within reach of the floor hatch next to the motor. This location was chosen by the PO. The Racor kept filling with air and of course, stalling the engine. A month of diagnosing and...

    Captains License

I believe the Jones Act is normally read to ensure that "Port to Port" trade is done by U.S. built ships and not charters returning to the Port of Origin.

    Gopher Broke is Headin' Home

BD, welcome home. We will keep an eye out for you on the Big Lake. If you see two crazy sailors and a small white dog approaching you at anchor, don't be alarmed, we are not soliciting for the Old Salt Retirement Home, just looking for a spot of Rum.

    Question for the Minneapolis Folk.

I would suggest using Active Captain to research Marinas instead of Google. And for info on trucking a boat into the Minnesota area, call Cross Country Boat Transport, https://www.crosscountryboat.com/ They will have all the updated info on routes, marinas that can handle the lift, etc. As BD...

BD, where is your slip in Bayfield? We are in the Apostle Islands Marina, right in town. Once you get there we should have a Trawler Forum Happy Hour and see if we can scare up any more members in the area.

    Humorous/cute boat names

We once followed a pair of cruising boats on Lake Superior but only heard them via VHF. One of them sounded like "Mister Squiggly". Yep it was " Mistress Quickly"....

Get plenty of references on surveyors and don't go with low price. Don't compare the survey cost to the asking price of the boat. You are asking the condition of a potentially $50 - $60K boat because that's what you will have into it by the time you're done. Remember, Eyes Wide Open!!

    Fuel hose size

I would research the pump and use the recommended inlet size. The Racor 900 should be able to handle any flow rate the pump needs.

    Question

Another good resource for boater training would be a charter company school / charter certification course. Most of these I've seen are sail charter companies but time on the water is always transferable to any kind of boating you will do in the future.

    Passing Before Bridges

I've never understood the need to constantly circle your vessel while holding station. A good helmsman will be able to pickup the wind or current direction and put the bow into it and using small corrections with the transmission and helm hold the vessel in more or less one spot. In situations...

    WH Autopilot Model AP 3-D

A couple months ago I posted a request for help on a WH autopilot and no one on the forum had a manual for this model. Park Bench

If I could find myself sitting on a park bench, late fall, on a beautiful evening I would like to see me, myself, walking up and sitting down. I would then ask myself " What took you SO long to get here." Moral: Don't take too long to sit and enjoy the fall evenings of your life.
