    Older Vessels

good points, thanks and i am sure these recent storms ain't helping with insurance coverage. case in point, USAA raised our homeowners premium so high, auto too but not as bad, that we tried to switch carriers this summer and some said they would not even write any Texas homeowner policies, period

    Older Vessels

somewhat off point here but as to insurance, wonder if the carrier gives me credit for the 40 years of experience although all on boats b/w 16' and 28' --- last ten years or so been insured with Progressive

    Older Vessels

thanks for the advice I did hear insurance is harder to come by on these older vessels and many marinas don't want you around without it

    Older Vessels

Seem to come across a few older vessels that, at least online, look quite clean and in decent condition. For instance, a 1978 Defever 43' for sale on here. What is the realistic lifespan of these older vessels? Not necessarily the electrical / mechanical systems, as I know they...

Will You Go Broke On A Boat? - 1999 Viking 60 SportYatch

This disclosure will keep me sleepless for the next week and it is not even my finances: "Here’s the scary, but workable part. As people are well aware nowadays, most families don’t have $100k saved up in cash. Neither do we, so this was going to be approached from a rent to own and then to...

    Inside v fly-bridge helm stations

Thanks for all the advice Since likely traveling warmer climates, sounds like upper helm only works Plus and as some stated— more living space in the salon Now I just need to talk my better half into this journey, who’s somewhat concerned about my mechanical skills but proved some worth this...

    Inside v fly-bridge helm stations

looking for some advice as to where most pilot their vessels -- inside/lower helm vs fly-bridge understood as a weather dependent issue as well as visibility. however, when presented a choice, wondering where most do their running from. came across this '87 Kha Shing 36' vessel for sale...

Trawlers - Used Prices and Inventory

Peter --- agreed, in my rare downtime I do enjoy browsing thru the online listings — thoughts of many fine adventures. On the other hand, don’t want to spend the money required for a newer vessel, so the fear factor is steep.

Trawlers - Used Prices and Inventory

I eyed this market for about a year now. It does seem some vessels go very quick and then there quite a few on YW for a long time which I imagine are in poor shape? In any event, will the prices on the older vessels go down if not for any other reason that I keep hearing the cost of ownership...

bluewater 5200 -- anyone heard of these vessels?

got it -- TY while at the gym, found an older 2015 thread on these vessels and everyone said the same. more houseboat/condo on the water than cruiser -- figured there was a 'catch' as it looked a little too good a deal

bluewater 5200 -- anyone heard of these vessels?

Maybe a good ICW cruiser -- possibly over the to Bahamas?

bluewater 5200 -- anyone heard of these vessels?

thanks --makes sense, does look like a bit like a river cruiser with the low swept lines of course, the broker goes on about a seaworthy vessel but take into consideration the source

bluewater 5200 -- anyone heard of these vessels?

can across this interesting vessel --- 2007 Bluewater 5200 do not see a listed draft, but the description and lines seems to indicate possibly fairly shallow anybody know anything of this builder? never heard of them before...

    Aspen Cats

Also, and more relevant here, in the videos I watched regarding the Aspen 108, the fit and finish and vessel systems seemed well thought out and of quite decent quality— least far as you could tell from a video

    Aspen Cats

I’ve seen the above video as well and similarly was unimpressed with the alleged ‘rough’ sea state. That being said, I was enamored with the smaller Aspen Cats, 107 and 108 I believe, especially given the outboard power since these are the engines which powered our boats over the last few...

    Interesting boats

Makes sense. Lots of sense. I just don’t have any experience with even sleeping on a vessel one night let alone for months on end

    Interesting boats

Not sure if these qualify as 'interesting vessels' -- they sure are to me and while they are up there in age, I believe Hatteras made/makes sturdy vessels(?). At least i know they've been in the game for a long time.... https://www.boattrader.com/boat/1984-hatteras-long-range-cruiser-9299630/...

    N/A vs forced induction

Yeah, that's what I was thinking after decades of banging around in lighter outboard powered boats.... the weight of these vessels surely provide a smoother ride

    N/A vs forced induction

Understood ---thanks The better half is more interested in those other aspects anyhow
