    Solar vs Wind

That’s funny, I posted to this thread yesterday with a photo of my AirBreeze set-up on our boat, before we sold it, but the post and phjoto are gone today. What gives..? I’ll try again... We were very happy with the windpower added charging, to a couple of modest solar panels, and it was not...

    New Zealand Inter-Island Ferry Aground

Good grief. This sort of thing never happened back in the days when I was at med school in Dunedin, and we travelled back to the North Island several times a year, driving all the way, with the car safely stowed on board for the Cook Strait part of the journey. It was very enjoyable and so...

    Steber Australia`s new 40ft Hybrid

Thanks for putting that up Bruce. Sounds very interesting. Clearly out on the water, well away from power outlets, range anxiety is a limiting factor with electric power, but from what I can gather, this vessel is rather like the way a diesel-electric train works. The diesel engine just...

    Greetings all!

Welcome to another Aussie. Do you back the Blues, or are you a closet Q'lander down there..? 😬

55 gallon drums as replacement fuel tanks?

I had a great result replacing water tanks with plastic. Those ones in your link look the real deal, fuel grade. If you could slide in two each side that gives you 200 gallons all up, and for most folk, that's plenty. That's roughly 800 litres, which was plenty for me.

    Anchor size

First issue is the chain size. I would recommend getting a good length, based on the depths you will most be anchoring in, of new galvanised chain the right size for the gypsy. As to anchors..? Most would now recommend one of the new generation anchors, from those with roll bars, which...

    Outboard powered

It clearly was originally a Clipper 30, which was the same hull as my Clipper 34, but 4 ft shorter, or putting it another way, my Clipper 34 was the same hull, extended by 4 ft. Most of which went into the cockpit, which was always too short in the 30, with the interior stretched just a little...

Welcome to TF, and I think you'll enjoy the company of the folk on here. This may well be the last official act as a moderator I perform, as I am stepping down, but having been on here since 2008, I think I can say you will not regret joining up. :flowers:

No mobile app frustrations (I know it was turned off)

Why not just use the laptop anyway as a routine..? I can't be bothered frigging around trying to read anything much on a phone - use the MacBook Air as much as possible. Much easier when inputting, for sure. Failing that, it's pretty easy to navigate on an iPad. Just sayin'... :)

    Anchoring again

Just go with an appropriately sized (?+1) Sarca Excel, and you'll have no worries virtually ever. A Fortress as back-up for very soft mud might also be good, but you'll never get to use it. :D PS I have no shares in Sarca, just know they are good. :)

I used to own a 1975 version of one of those. It's going to need A LOT of work. But hey, if keen to get out there, short on cash, but big on DYI, why not..? ?

It seems I am updating everythink but the kitchen sink. Well here goes

Your saucepan's just too large. You are only cooking for two on a boat most times. :D Sorry, but that huge job you've just done would have fallen into my category of...'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', but my boat was way more ordinary than yours in the first place. Never mind - you did it -...
