    Soft Shackle

Thanks Peter. I have seen those before. On here, even. Works like an old winch gear dog. That setup still puts a good bit of downward pull on the bow hardware/pulpit, no?

Thanks for stern tie PVC reel suggestion

You describe it just fine Dave. :thumb: Only thing different I did was use a twist tie. I said zip tie in my original but meant twist. The twist tie is easier to remove either at shore or at the boat when hauled in. I twisted it off at shore because, sure as shootin' I'd forget at haul in and...

    The long way home

I'm excited for you. I've been checking her progress once a week or so and it's been fun. Also, there is a boat moored here in Sidney called Long Way Home which triggers a thought of you and Libra when I see it. :thumb:

Can you elaborate on that for me please. How is a lock different from a chain hook and how does your lock replace a snubber. I guess pics would really work for an old brain. Thanks.

    Dumpster diving find...

Yeah, right. When the guy got back from his car with the gate key he wondered who scored his beer so quick.

Von Donop is another hugely popular spot just over the hump from you. There is a rugged trail/skid road connecting the two. If I remember, the Squirrel Cove end is near the store. Check your books on Von Donop for when you come back in Sept.

Morning Dave. Can't help you with deciding where to go. It will be nuts everywhere and will get worse as the day moves on. Just like camping. I'd guess Malaspina/Okeover would be the least busy. I'm sure you know of the "trail" to Von Donop. Just curious; AIS shows 10 boats in Squirrel...

Cables mostly. More over by the lagoon side. Looks like Refuge and Malaspina Inlet are quieter if you want to do a moonlight waltz. Have another rum.

If you need a spare anchor, there is every brand and size you could ever want on the bottom of Squirrel Cove. Have another rum.

I hope the youngsters with their PWCs from Ascente don't harass you too much but I guess you are leaving before the weekend. Owner's name is Steve if you need to call him on behavior. I noticed Malibu was up there. Like so many of the real old timers on our coast she has a storied past. As...

Ted, Hi! As I read it I anticipated a 25 to 30 pounder. Busy where you are? Ascente at 112' is set up to single hand. Poor guy.

You see Ascente in there? She must take up a lot of real estate.

I don't want to drag this "west coast" thread all the way to the Atlantic but... almost every thread on here is about fun because it involves doing what we love. Heads n halibut, anchors n abalone...

You pick. Dave; don't feel bad about the other thread, it's all just good general information for anyone thinking of the "south" coast and Gulf Islands. From me, Keith may think differently, you are what, 3 hours from Westview to Hardy Island and Musket Island Marine Park. Good dinghy or...

    (BC) Gulf Island Favorites?

Keith, your first round of go to's is a good'n. Some of mine are subject to exposure but make a good "back of the mind, just in case" plan B. Storm Bay, I agree. I like that the Skookumchuck keeps most at bay. In fact, watching the coast via AIS over the past month, is like flying over the...

    (BC) Gulf Island Favorites?

Here's another one I just thought of, if you are having a slow(er) lazy day and need a nice spot for lunch; Buccaneer Bay between the Thormanby Islands. It can even be a decent overnighter if the winds cooperate. And another, they just keep popping up...if you cross over to the west of Texada...

    (BC) Gulf Island Favorites?

I thump the drum for Hotham Sound for a few reasons. The run up Princess Louisa is a long one at 100nm return and that's why I say you might not be near there again. While I wouldn't discourage anyone from going up, Malibu and Chatterbox not withstanding, I look at it like Starbucks and the...

    (BC) Gulf Island Favorites?

You may never be so close again so I insist you at least take a look at your books and charts of Hardy and Nelson Islands, Hotham Sound and one of my forever favourites, Sechelt Inlet where, at the moment, there is only 1 AIS hit.

    (BC) Gulf Island Favorites?

Kevin has it covered really well and I'll throw in a few more which, depending on winds can work; Sidney Spit, Tumbo, Irish Bay, Prevost Island, Dionisio Point, Tent Island, Secretary Islands and North Cove. Boat Harbour in a pinch. Careful entry...

I doubt he can read us so we can talk about him. I grinned and punched the air when I saw him making the run into Pendrell. He's hooked. We'll be seeing a Seattle vision care practice for sale soon.

PM, email and Thank You issues.

At first I thought my issues were related to mobile but it also happens with PC. I see Menzies is now having PMS (priv mess sent) issues as well. I just posted to a thread and once "post" was hit, it vanished. Backed all the way out and back in, it was there. Also, (whiney aren't I?) I...

32' boat just went down off Comox

This was two men in an oyster skiff, loaded with oyster farm gear that just took on water. Too much water. The two in dry suits were pulled from the water by a private vessel, transferred to a CG craft and returned to Comox. No drama. A day in the life of commercial boys. Thanks to the vessel...

Every picture tells a story. Some not so nice as I recall those lost. The first of this series, Dave (post 185) is Dinner Rock where in the darkness of 1947 the Gulf Stream struck rolled and 5, including an infant, drowned in the stern. Your second picture is Savary Island which you see in...
