    Help: Late 70's GB42CL

VA yacht brokers had a 42 with a single listed. I looked a 36 last summer but it failed survey. Eventually found a 36 in Marathon that had decks redone and fuel tanks replaced, albeit half the tankage. At this stage of my life, I don't need too many projects. Just maintainence.

    Water tanks

Thinking I can remount the quadrant upside down. If I raise it to the top of the shaft, I lose the ability to use the emergency tiller.

    Water tanks

So ordered tanks from Ronco today. 20 day lead time. Removed old exhaust hose, from transom to hanging locker just before engine room bulkhead. Connection there was a piece of threaded galvanized pipe. Cutting that off to be replaced with fiberglass connector. Removed the panel to access the...

Eli. Is this GB 42 over in Chesapeake VA? Dark blue hull?

    Old GB32 steering mechanism question

Another with bronze rubrails. '79 36 with chain on sprockets going to cable. However, my quadrant needs a little attention. Thinking of flipping it over. Yes, rebuilding the rudder table too!

    GB 42 Classic Air draft?

Following as we plan to travel the Erie Canal later this season. A less then scientific measurement has our bimini at 15'5" from waterline.

Wanted: 1978 GB classic parts needed

While I am not on facebook, I hear there is a GB forum there. Maybe a source of info on parts. Also John Shanahan at Oxford Boatworks. The old Dickerson yard is maintaining and refitting older GBs. I have a steering quadrant that needs straightening.

    Estimating current

Removing a paddlewheel speed transducer can be intimidating at first. Do it enough and it becomes routine. Had Datamarine speed and depth instruments on my Cal 2-27. Would remove the speed and insert plug when I was not traveling. Saved wear and tear on the paddlewheel components.

Slow Hand 2023 To Lake Superior and back

Morning Ted. Following as well, as this is the route we will be taking later this year. Safe travels.

    Nordhavn runs aground Ocean Reef

Yep. Loose enough wrap that when I run below I can still steer to avoid. Old Benmar to starboard of helm.

120 lehman loss of oil pressure

I am inclined to think it is a fuel issue as well.

    Nordhavn runs aground Ocean Reef

I have a dead Benmar 14. Crossed the O early last Sept. Biggest problem was blind mosquitoes after anchoring south of the Myakka lock entrance. Replacing AP is down the list so hand steering for the next 6-7k miles. But I do have a functioning bow thruster....... jinx.....

    Horns!!?

I have train horns on both my trucks. Loud but air capacity is small. I would get larger air tank if using on a boat.

    What is this?

It is an aluminum rod on a stainless post with ratchet and clamp. Maybe an experiment on dissimilar metals.

    Bingo!

    Water tanks

Yes I have 2 hose pullers and a sprayer with soapy water. Boat is in the water. Luckily with port tank out the exhaust is completely out of the water. 11+' run of 3.5" wet exhaust hose and 4 t hose clamps from Defender.

That would be my suggestion also. Just motor it up the coast on it's own hull.

    Water tanks

Yes on the Bilgekote. Also replacing the exhaust hose. Those were my thoughts on connecting the tanks also. Definitely using hose.

    Water tanks

Afternoon all. Having tried several sizes of cardboard mock-up tanks, settled on 2 each 35gal tanks 30"×22"×14". Tanks would be installed with 30" vertical and 22" horizontal. Tanks would be the model 7W tanks from Ronco. This should also diminish the wave action of one large unbaffled tank...
