    My boat smells like celery?

I never had that or anything like it on the boat. I did the trip solo and I had not provisioned since Hampton VA. Even though I had no odor where the batteries are I shut the charger off just to see. I just finished a 6200 mile trip so to me it is just weird that an hour after I docked the odor...

Information on going Intercoastal Waterway from Cape May to Atlantic City

I went from Atlantic City to Manasquan with several boats three weeks ago. I draft a solid 4'. We left at half tide rising and the only place you need to watch out was at mark 161. Stay in the center or just left of center and you should be fine. The lowest I saw was 1' under my keel. I would do...

    My boat smells like celery?

The celery smell reminds me of celery salt. I would call it a spicy smell then. So I went into the areas where my batteries are and there is no odor at all. I have nine 1-1/2 year old all AGM batteries on the boat. The smell is in the entire living space. Not from cabinets where I keep my spices...

    My boat smells like celery?

I arrived home from completing the loop this past Sunday. For the last year of live aboard I have never had any odors. I keep the boat clean. All I did is take the laundry and trash off the boat which is a frequent chore. When I went aboard later that day it had this smell like celery. I sniffed...

    Too cold for me

I am a looper now in southern Florida wearing shorts and tee shirts. 85 today 77 tonight. I am from Massachusetts and as I have aged I really hate the cold. They are getting severe cold and wind starting tomorrow.

2023 cruising, So Where are You Going?

I am 7 months into the Great Loop solo. Currently on the West side of southern Florida past Sarasota. So far about 4000 miles logged and I now plan to go around again. I think the first time teaches you about the journey the second time you is when you can really enjoy it.

    Dogs on boats

I am currently doing the Great Loop with my dog. I don't care where she goes I clean all of it up. It is the right thing to do. The geese do make an awful mess.

    Any members near Montreal?

I am wanting to get through St Catherine and St Lambert locks. I am solo and two people are required. As of now I have had no luck finding someone. Anyone have a person or advice? If I need to I can turn around or do the down east circle but that is not what I want to do. Thanks

    Awesome Great Loop Vlog

I too have been following them, I also have a dog and prefer to anchor which is something they share and will be a good resource.

    Batten down the hatches

Stopped at Gaines Marina Rouses Point NY on Lake Champlain due to a building wind yesterday. Today the wind has been averaging 30 plus with a peak gust of 42 out of the South. Tomorrow looks about the same with rain. I spent last weekend at Burlington Harbor Marina where the wind was a steady 30...

Need a second person to go through Chambly locks

My Burlington visit was nice. My wife drove up for the weekend. We ate our way through. The lake was a washing machine both Saturday and Sunday with winds near 30. Monday was calm so I went and anchored at Valcour Island. I woke up yesterday to a south wind that continued to build.

Need a second person to go through Chambly locks

I went through Lake Champlain. I am currently at Gaines Marina Rouses Point. I am hunkered down due to high winds and an angry lake.

Need a second person to go through Chambly locks

It looks like the wind will hold me up at Gaines Marina until Friday. It looks like I wont head into Canada until then. It looks like I will need a helper over the weekend now. The lock master must have a list of people. I agree with CharliO I can't be the only solo operator that wants to go...

Need a second person to go through Chambly locks

You need two people to lock through Chambly locks. I was hoping for an exemption but they said no. Is there anyone that would like to join me I want to go through in the next two days. I will be glad to compensate a helper. Thanks

    Champlain Canal 5/29/2022

CharlieO, I am on my way tomorrow. Leaving Shady Harbor and doing my first locks. I think a good first stop will be Mechanicsville due to the mass amount of loopers leaving here tomorrow and heading for the Erie. Stop two should be Fort Edwards. I will take your advice after that. Thanks you are...

    Trip planning LI sound

Backinblue, I appreciate you advice I just don't want to go to a marina tonight, I want to anchor near the Statue. Charlieo has a perfect spot at Liberty Park. Another Looper has stayed there many times and also recommended it. I was not ignoring you when I am cruising I don't look at my social...

I've got a mooring reserved at Oyster Bay Marine Center for tonight. My next question is once in NY Harbor where can I anchor and have a place to get the dog ashore?

I made it to Port Jefferson, Thank you Backinblue for the clear directions to a nice anchorage. Do you have any advice for Oyster Harbor or a better place to get ready for East River?

Thank you. We made Fishers Island in pea soup fog yesterday and anchored in East Harbor. Today we made Mattituck and are anchored up. This is a great anchorage.

I can't wait to follow your foot print. I have heard there are no anchorages on the Champlain canal so would Fort Edwards Yacht Basin be my first must stop? Ty

    Replumbing entire boat

Last year I did a complete replumb with Pex. I agree it is the way to go. My tip is buy straight sections from a plumbing supply house. The coil I first bought from Home Depot was a SOB to run. It does not like to straighten. I ended up buying and using straight sections for all the long runs. I...
