    Comments on a 9.8HP 4 stroke Kubota

I have Suzuki outboards and love the fuel injection. These motors will sit all winter and start instantly. Only way to go.

    Clogged Shower Sump Outtake Hose

My problem went away when I replaced my anchor chain. To much rust and corrosion on the old chain.

Fishing on the way to Alaska and once there

Do some research online to see what the regulations are for crab and shrimp pots in BC and Alaska. The differences are mostly in the size and location of the escape holes and the size of the rot twine holding them closed. You might need to rework your pots to be able to legally use them up...

    Washington Boater's License Training

You definitely don't need a training course to get the card. Here is a free course approved by the State of Washington. You sit down when you have a few hours of free time, read chapter one on line, answer a few quick questions about what you just read, and continue on to the next chapter...

    Any experience with hydrofoils?

I have installed them on my previous tender (15 hp. Honda) and my current tenders (15hp Suzuki and a 60hp Suzuki). They worked perfectly in each case. The last one I installed there were no holes to drill. Here is a link to the type I use: https://www.fisheriessupply.com/browse?terms=hydrofoils

72 Gulf Star no fuel gauge??

Look on the side of your fuel tanks where you will probably see a plastic tube running up the side of the tank where you can easily see the fuel level inside the tank. Each tank will have it's own. If you don't have them, then you better find that stick.

    49 Defever bilge bulge

I have never heard of a fiberglass Defever with wood in the hull. They are solid fiberglass. That water may have come from the chain locker, could be from a rusty chain. I know my chain locker does not have a outside the hull drain. Probably at sometime in the past someone drilled a hole to...

So who else out here in the San Juans?..

You may have noticed small red buoys in among the state park buoys. There was a inspection done this spring and many mooring buoys were removed, I assume for safety reasons. The red buoys mark were the anchors are located. Here is a link to a story I did back in 2018 about tying to park...

    Sticky vinyl

Good tip. I wonder how it would work on fenders? In the past I have used Castrol Super Clean and it worked well except left them kind of sticky.

    Radar reflector

Just get on the VHF and ask a passing boat how well you show up on radar. Doesn't even need to be a foggy day as most boats have theirs on all the time.

where to start -- engine not getting fuel

Can you remove the line that delivers fuel to the fuel pump? Any fuel flowing out of that? If not, go back to the fuel filter. Is it a dual filter set up where you select which filter is delivering the fuel? It is possible to turn that selector to the off position. Is it turned off? Can you...

    Orcas island ferry terminal

Yes there is a good county dock there. Because there is so much boat traffic in the summer months it can be rough on the outside of the dock so is not a place you want to tie up your big boat for very long. But is OK for a tender on the inside of the dock. It is right next to the ferry...

Does the generator sound like it is running at the normal rpm? I know mine must run at 1800 rpm to give the correct voltage.

    battery terminal service

Mix up some baking soda and water. Apply it to the terminals and it will fizz up and dissolve the acid. Then clean rhe battery post's and cable ends real well with a wire brush ( or sandpaper will work too). Apply a thin coat of Vaseline and reassemble. They make special brushes for cleaning...

    Fiberglaser in seattle

I second Pacific Fiberglass. I met the owners son this spring in Everett where they were doing several jobs. Seemed very knowledgeable. There business card says structural and cosmetic repair. They have their own yard in Seattle with haul outs to 55 ton.

    Slow shower drain

Just changed my hose today. What a PITA! Probably been in there since 1988. Attached a small line to it so I could pull the new hose back the same path. Came loose at the last minute so had to fish the hose out with my mechanical fingers. My wife helped but not real enthusiastic. Took most...

What brand of anchor chain do you use?

What brand of Anchor chain do you use and how is it holding up? I thought I might try ACCO Grade 43 High Test but read some posts online that were not very good. But they were 4-5 years old. Have they made any improvements to their galvanizing in the past few years?

    Lubricant for Maxwell Nilsson windlass

My windlass failed me yesterday. After thoroughly testing all the electrical connections and applying 12 volts directly to the motor with a battery charger, I removed the motor and found it full of a very gooey grease. So a seal has failed somewhere between the motor and the gearbox. I...
