Bottom job - 2 Coats of Interlux - started peeling after 3 months

If the yard cleaned and repainted, they just applied the paint to the previous bottom paint, not the gel coat. If the same paint was used, there should be no problem, unless they did not sand before applying it. Where are these bad spots showing up? If they are only out close to the chine or...

    High pilothouse, good or bad?

Just remember the stabilizers have no effect at all on waves coming from the front, only on the beam.

    Depth Sounder

I have had issues with our Raymarine sounder. So as a last resort I set it back to the factory default settings, and it has worked very good since. Lost bottom a few times when over 500', but I can live with that. I think it might have been a problem with the previous owner and then myself...

Twin 240 Yanmar Diesels Blow by problem

I am in the process of installing oil catch cans on my Lehman 135's. There is not a significant amount of oil but enough to make a mess. The vent hoses go from the valve cover to the air filter. I am using a air compressor air filter and currently making a bracket to mount it to the manifold...

    Rockfish closeure in SE Alaska

I had a talk with a man who participated in the bottom fishing industry during it's hay-day in BC. He owned three boats at the time. There were a couple of guys per boat, each using a rod with about 6-8 hooks on each line, and electric reels. They would bait up each hook and send them down...

    Rockfish closeure in SE Alaska

The problem is over fishing and the fact that is takes so long for these fish to grow to maturity. One of those yellow eye ( red snapper) that weighs 10 pounds may be 75 years old. The charter boats will come in with a boat load of them day after day. Much of the Inside Passage thru BC is...

La Conner, Wa. Boat building is alive and well

I took this photo early last spring. What makes it significant is with the exception of the very last boat, all these boats are built here in La Conner, in fact right across the street from this dock. All the fiberglass boats in the foreground are American Tugs built by Tomco Marine. Some are...

    Cold snap

Yes, we are watching the weather forecasts closely. The weather maps showed some snow in the area this morning. Expecting the water to be turned off at any time so keeping the tank full as that will probably last 10 days or more. Bought a styrofoam cover for the faucet on the forward deck...

    Dockwa

At this stage of my life I hate to be obligated to be at a certain location on a certain day. I just get up in the morning and decide if we are going to cruise or just stay put. Don't really stay in marinas much anyway so would probably never use it.

    Windshield Wipers

I changed my wipers last year from the old style single wiper arm ( called a radial arm) to the newer style dual arm type ( called pantogram arm). The best prices I found was at Grainger Industrial Supply. That was a very good up-grade.

    Are My 8D's Dead?

When checking a bank of batteries with a hydrometer, is it best practice to disconnect the batteries from each other, or can they be left together? Thanks

    Are My 8D's Dead?

I agree with Tiltrider1. That is a small house bank, less than 500 amps. We have 4 8D for a total of 960 amps with a inverter that has a 100 amp charger. This past week I let the system get down to 11.8 volts and it took many hours of bulk charging at 14.7 volts and 100 amps to get it back to...

Aluminum Hull Rib - Bottom Paint and Corrision Control

You will need to choose a bottom paint made for aluminum. Not all bottom paints are. I also think you need to apply a epoxy primer first. Do a google search : prepping aluminum boat for bottom paint.

Shelter Bay is on reservation land, so the land was all long term leases. A few years ago the tribe decided they wanted the land back. Not sure what the outcome was, but check out carefully.

    inverter bulk charge voltage low

Charging four 8D. Got below 12 volts last night. Lowest it has ever been. I found how to reset and did that. Voltage has come up a little in the past two hours. Maybe just jumped the gun. Headed back to the dock now. Will see how it does on shore power. Thanks guys..

    inverter bulk charge voltage low

I have a Magnum ME2012 2000 watt inverter. When beginning the bulk charge mode it should charge at 14.6 volts. This voltage is automatically set when you are charging conventional wet cell batteries. This morning it will not go over 13.4 volts. ( this just happens to be the correct voltage...
