Is a built in toaster oven the smart choice?

If you don’t have an oven, you might consider a microwave/convection unit. We have one, it works great and doesn’t seem to generate too much heat.

Dido Comodave. Have the engine/mechanical survey include the sea trial. Best of luck with your new boat.

    Fridges

Another issue We have a Dometic 12v/110 that works well. It seems to cool better on AC, but not that much. We were recently on a 5 night cruise, and our Magnum inverter went out. If we didn’t have the 12 v option, we would have to have shortened our cruise. Just a thought.

    Metalic Marine bottom coatings

It’s time to do the bottom. Does anyone have any experience with Metalic Marine powder coating. They appear to claim 5 to 10 years between haul outs, and suitable for DYI.

Are Cell Boosters worth the install/price?

WebBoat Antenna System Check out the WebBoat 4G Plus by Glomex. We have one and it works well in most areas of So Cal. It also picks up marina wifi. Just a thought.

    PNW - Winter heating options

Hello Rusty We had our boat in Seattle for a winter, basically unattended. We used three catalytic heaters from West Marine. One in the engine room and two in the cabin. We had no problems. They are cheap and draw very little. Something to consider.

    small 12 volt freezer?

We have a Norcold on our flybridge. Works great. It's AC, but they have an adapter (inverter). It's a refrigerator and a freezer. Seems to draw about .75amps. They make a 30, 45, and a 60. Norcold NRF. Good luck.

any ideas for davit(s) able to support up to 2000 lbs?

The advice from Taras is good advice. You will need to tow it. Consider a small console rib on a stern tilt davit on the swim step. It’s easy to launch and retrieve, even when you’re in your slip.

    Volvo engines

Volvo Service We use Harry's Marine in Orange, CA (714) 771-7899. They are Volvo authorized service. We've never had a problem. You might want to call them and ask your questions. Talk to Kyle, if he's available.

Glomex webboat 4g or Shakespeare webwatch

This is an update to my previous post. When we originally set up our WeBBoat with AT&T, we used it to watch Directv programming (without data usage charges) and connected our I Phone and I Pads to our large screen TVs via a lightening to HDMI adapter cable (available from Apple). Unfortunately...

    Alcohol Stove

Been There We’ve had sail boats with alcohol and cng systems, and power boats with propane and genset systems. My advice would be to find a trawler you like with a genset. This will extend your time on the hook by charging the batteries and providing hot water for showers, etc. If you’re...

    Chb 34

CHB Stability This is a fun time for you, enjoy the search. Our first power boat was a CHB 34. We made the natural progression from sail to power. To answer your question, I don’t think there is much difference in the stability between the CHB and other trawlers in the same class. In fact...

Tax implications of WA resident keeping boat in OR?

Washington Cruising Permit Kawini: Check with Washington on the types of permits they have for non-resident individuals. We had our boat in WA in 2017, and, if I recall correctly, we paid $500 for a 1 year permit. They have different restrictions for different permits. They also have...

I would try the Noflex, or some other holding tank chemical, before major surgery.

    What style should I buy?

You’ve had lots of advice, here’s a recommendation, look at a Navigator 44. We’ve been boating since the early 70s. We made the natural progression from sail boats, to trawlers, to sport fishers, to motor yachts, and down to express cruisers. We then moved to the Navigator. We chose the...

    List of “good” inverters please

Had a Hart on our previous boat, when it failed, I replaced it wit a Magnum, and was very happy with it, and no problems. We have a Magnum on our current boat, still happy, and no problems (knock on wood).

    Fuel tank cross over

Cross Over Valve Issue Try closing the valves while underway, and opening them while in port. If that doesn’t solve the problem, then do the work to clean the valves and tube.

    Propane BBQ Alternative

We’ve used propane BBQs for years, from disposable cylinders to small refillable tanks. The storage and disposal of the tanks has always been a concern. Our current boat has a generator, which we normally run while cooking on our electric stove and convection/ microwave. We are now trying one...

    CHB 34 cruising speed?

Depends on the engines. We had a CHB 34 with twin Volvos, and cruised at 11 knots. With the single diesel, 7-8 sounds about right.

We have the Glowmex. It’s a WiFi hot spot that allows cell reception up to about 20 miles from the tower. It requires you to set up an account like a cell phone. It does not work with Verizon. AT&T and T-Mobile seem to be the preferred providers. When choosing the provider and plan, beware of...

    Need advice on best rugs

Rugs We like machine made Persian type rugs. They come in many styles and colors. You can get them in wool or synthetic. We prefer the wool as it’s very durable, cleans up well, and feels good on bare feet. Be sure to use a non skid pad.
