    blue sea part ?

Billy, the amps you are referring to is not starting amps, it is charging amps. starting amps does not go thru this switch. basically what this switch does is combine two banks when charging current is available. When there is a discharge, the switch disconnects. So if you have two banks, this...

here are some initial observations. my meter has a data logging, so you can see certain data for up to 30 days. one of the data it logs is the solar AH into the batteries. since it is newly installed, i only have data from 3 days as follows: day 1: 83 AH day 2: 56 AH day 3: 55 AH not sure...

    34LRC battery location?

FW, nice schematics.. what is the Yandina combiner? i have 4 x 8Ds in mine, two are outboard of the engines in the bilge and two are in an enclosure forward of the port engine whereas my genset is located on the SB forward of the SB engine. dripless shaft logs sound nice, what did that cost you?

FW and DCBD, thank you.. yes i much prefer that symmetry also. I am not sure swinging up the panels really make much difference but since the mounts i choose had this option i decided to include it. For the most part the panels will be down, perhaps when at anchorage we will raise them if we...

personally i am looking at the Nissan Leaf of possible Tesla when they come out with a 4 door. and i agree, electric cars are for the most part coal powered, but that i am guessing will change. california has as the first state put in law that all utilities must get min 33% energy from renewable...

    What kind of boat???

You are in Florida? one thing i feel the californian has as a huge advantage over many of the boats you are listing is the walk around decks with safety rails all the way around, safer for kids (and drunk fishermen) and gives more rail space for fishing, no just the cockpit. i dont have a/c in...

    LRC 34/3208 fuel consumption

i dont think you will get a full plane at 2400 but i dont know for sure. mine is a 38' and my 3208 are TA @ 260HP, i am not planning @ 2400 rpm... probably going around 17kts. fuel burn at 2400 is something like 8 gph/each engine.

    LRC 34/3208 fuel consumption

i think there are many opinions on what might be considered a max allowable power setting. there is a world of difference between 1500 rpm and 2500 rpm in fuel burn/economy.

    A boat for Mark

i was wondering too since you mentioned transatlantic but really you probably meant transpacific.. unless it is going all the way around the other way and thru the canal, but i figure thats unlikely.. is she 100% complete now?

seems the thread is going towards TDE... electrical powered cars are coming to stay, it is the future. combustion powered cars will become less and less. personally i love the idea to get stuff for free and not pollute the environment at the same time. pretty sure you will see solar panels on...

    Don't tell my wife!!!!

looks like a very good use of space for sure. can absolutely understand what you're saying, really its not the length of the boat so much, it is the usability of that space. great fuel economy also, guess thats what its like to go one engine.

Glueing davits to an achilles inflatable????

Steve, Thank you, that makes sense. I have some ideas how to clamp it, and i believe you are correct that it need some sort of clamping during the curing process. I used tape as per the instructions but really didnt work all that well, the tube is slightly arched but the pads are flat, so there...

    34 LRC Hull Construction??

i have a 38' californian lrc. (1982 year) when we bought it we had it pulled out of the water for a thorough survey. some blisters were noted but nothing serious. to me having a surveyor was really great, he helped me on so many levels. btw, those reasons you are listing is exactly why we got...

    LED Anchor Light

talking about LED's... i have been looking for a "accent-reading" light to put on the underside of the FB overhang exterior, if you look at flywrights photos above, the 4th picture shows the cockpit same as mine, so a "reading" light to put right outside of the two cockpit sliding doors. i...

    Solar Panel

Hey SP, thats not a bad idea at all.. these panels do not require rear ventilation so you could glue them onto alu plates. i like the idea that you can stowe the panels when cruising and then put them out when at anchor or at the marina. let me know how that works out for you.

    Solar Panel

so i decided to add one more 85w panel, on order now. also, i ordered a MPPT charge controller. MPPT is a newer technology which has some definitve advantages over the PVM and shunt type controllers. Basically a panel is constantly changing output, depending the sun, clouds, time of day etc...
