Autopilot control head- upper helm or lower?

Yes, you have to figure out what works for you the best. Here is what I came up with for me. Two years ago I replaced my non working auto pilot with a new Garmin Reactor 40 unit. Installed the controls at the upper helm. I do more than 95% of my driving at this station. If I am forced off...

    Head Maintenance - Toilet Cleaning?

I have used this on my boat and at home. First, convert to fresh water flush. Until you do this you are pissing in the wind, no pun intended. I have had very good luck using a fine grit wet/dry sandpaper to get rid of any variety of stains. Yes it really works. Give this a try. But do...

How does getting older compare to expectations?

Reminds me of a time on active duty in California, on the weekend nothing to do so I decided to walk the docks at a local marina. Came upon an older gentleman doing some sanding on his old wooden sailboat. I stopped and complimented on what a beautiful boat he had. He told me that he had been...

    Bilge pump float switch

Bilge pump switch I have used Water Witch switches on two of my three bilge pumps on my 1979 Mainship trawler. They have both been flawless for over ten years. Other small de watering pump has been replaced three times. Just not enough room where this pump is to incorporate a Water Witch...

    Maneuvering a Single in Reverse

Excuse me if I missed something. I have a 34ft. Mainship. Single screw, with bow thruster, I can put my boat anywhere I want it. Good God man use what you got. Use the thrusters to put your boat where you want it. I know it can be done without thrusters but why bother. Just use them, after...

    Costs to paint

Paint job This past winter I just had my 1979 Mainship 34 painted. Flag blue, with a red water line stripe. They used Imron. All cracks re glassed, primed, two coats of Flag blue, two coats of clear. Looks great my cost for the 34 ft hull was $23,000. I thought this was a good price with...

Can I move a Kadey Krogen 42 by truck

Half the fun in getting somewhere else is the going. Just point it in the direction of Texas and go. Not rocket science, and you will learn things along the way.

    Gulfcoast filter

Gulf Coast Filter I have had my Mainship for 12 years now. Have been running Gulf Coast by-pass oil filter on it for over 11.5 years. Best $700 I have ever spent. I change my on engine oil filter when I change out the Gulf Coast filter. Add 1.5 gal of makeup oil. This takes care of the...

    Plumbing: Crimp/Press copper fittings

Why not just re plumb the boat using PEX? I re plumbed my mainship about 5 or 6 years ago with PEX A, much easier than dinking around with copper. Has worked flawless ever since. Pex is a dream to work with, simple, straight forward, very easy to run through out the boat. Try it, you will...

    Thoughts on the Mainship 350??

The Mainship I own is a bit older, 1979 34ft. What I will speak to is the quality of the boat. This is built like a tank. Single Perkins diesel, Vetus bowthruster, and many carefree miles under the hull. I have owned Glider for just over 6 years and I have put on over 7300 miles. I know...
