How Much Rode & Chain For New England?

If you go with all chain, how do you cut the chain in the event of an emergency where you need to get rid of the anchor?

Inboard Diesel Express Cruisers- The New Dinosaurs?

Back Cove is sold out until late 2022 on their diesel powered express cruisers. They can't produce them fast enough to fill demand.

    Generator failure

I had the same issue with my MS400. The genset was very rusty and corroded and was always a problem with rusted fittings and sensors failing at the worst moments. I sprayed the genset with CorrosionX but that didn't work well. It's an issue with the boat.

Trawler VS Express (Space vs Speed)?

i went from a Mainship 400 to a Back Cove 37. We are both 70+ yrs old and we don't need steps anymore. There is almost as much room but my wife is very comfortable on the no step BC37. If she's happy, I'm happy. Plus, the Back Cove/Sabre company has been fabulous.

    Onboard Ovens

My wife also loves to cook. On our former boat, we had a Princess oven/stovetop which she hated at first but learned to love. We now have a Cuisinart combo Microwave/Convection oven and she likes it but wishes it were bigger. We can cook chicken and steaks in it when we can't use the outdoor...

ALL Mainship trawler owners looking to sell

You might want to reconsider the Mainship 34. The setup in the Mainship 400 is similar to the MS 34 in that you have steep stairs going to the flybridge, stair steps into the v berth and a high gunwale to step over if you can't use the swim platform. We sold our beloved MS 400 because, at 72...

ALL Mainship trawler owners looking to sell

Good boats are in short supply right now. I sold my Mainship 400 last summer in one day for the full asking price and I had two other offers shortly after I agreed to sell. Good luck with your search.

    Mantus m2

Mantus M2. Spent our first night at Pelican Bay, Cayo Costa, with the Mantus M2 with the new shank. We arrived early so I could have a few hours of experience with the new shank before susnset. Winds were 15-20 kts from the NNE with occasional gusts higher. I dropped the anchor at 2:00 pm and...

Speed with a single 400 Mainship?

I had a Mainship 400 with the same Yanmar 370 hp engine. I couldn't get it above 12 kts. with two aboard at full throttle. I've never seen 15 kts in the boat.

    Mantus m2

I received my new, revised shank for the M2. It's definitely beefier and has a different pull angle for the anchor. Haven't used it yet.

Replacing Refrigerator on 2004 Mainship 430

I had a Nova Kool on my MS 400 AC/DC and it ran great. I did have a problem with it, the cooling fan wouldn't run. I called them and they sold me a new fan. Nova Kool's can be repaired easily and they seem to be very reliable.

    Boat US Insurance-Longshore Liability Exclusion

I spent 40 yrs in the Aviation Insurance business and we had the same exclusion on Aviation policies. Think of it this way. The Longshoreman's Act is workers compensation for Marine workers. You cannot use your Marine Policy to fulfill your requirement to provide insurance for your workers, in...

New Member with Old Mainship with questions on How the 34’ and 400 ride

I sold the MS 400 and bought a Back Cove 37. It still wanders in a following sea at 10 kts, but at 15 kts., no worries. Great ride. Even the wife likes it. No fly bridge however.

New Member with Old Mainship with questions on How the 34’ and 400 ride

I sold my MS400 because it was not really intended to be stable in rough seas. The 400 is great on the ICW and Rivers, but not great in the Gulf, Ocean or Great Lakes. I had some really scary rides in the boat and decided that it was too "tender" for me. It has a wide bow and is beamy. The...

    Mainship 390 Headliner

On my 400, the surface above was not suitable for painting. We just bit the bullet and replaced the headliner. It's tedious but looks great.

I had a situation wherein the engine would not start. It turned out to be the switch. Maybe your switch is faulty.

    MS 400 Sump Pump

In the MS 400, the shower sump drains the AC condensate, the shower and the sink in the head. The galley sink drains overboard. Clean it out every six months or so and check the switch and pump and you'll be fine.

MS 30 Pilot II waste tank sender/gauge

Get RV Digestit. You can get it at Amazon or at an RV store. Dump the entire bottle into the tank and fill the tank 80% with water. Go for a ride and let it work around. Let it sit for two days or so. It shoule disolve any gunk on the sender unit. I use it in every tank after pumpout.

Leave AC on when not there?

I leave the AC set to 85 deg in the summer but..... If I leave for a week or two, I set it to dehumdify mode so the strainers don't get clogged. Water temp down here in Ft. Myers is 90 deg so stuff grows in the water easily. If I'm around the boat...... I clean the strainers every 3-5 days and...

Installed Balmar SG200 Battery Monitor in MS400

if you're going to install a battery monitor, install the Ballmar Smart Gauge. It works on all types of batteries, monitors the state of charge of the house and start battery, and it doesn't need a shunt to be installed. I had one on my MS400 and it was invaluable.

    Sanitation Lines Mainship Pilot 30

The prior owner of my boat didn't take out the old lines and almost caused the boat to become worthless. What happened is that there was bad stuff still in the lines when he cut them off and put wooden dowel plugs in each end. Over the years, the lines became permeated and stunk up the entire...

Maniship 400 - as far as the BVI or USVI or further?

I would be cautious about taking the Mainship outside rivers and the ICW. We crossed the Albemarle Sound one bright windy day and the seas, in a time period of 2 hours, went from 2 ft. to 7 ft. I thought the boat was going to capsize in the beam sea.we readjusted our heading to handle the sea...

Remove carpeting from floor, forward berth

We did ours and it was a mess. It was both stapled and glued. The glue had to be taken up before the new teak and Holly laminate could be installed. We ended up hiring it out to be done because it was so much work on our hands and knees. Also trimming the teak and Holly laminate was difficult in...

    Zantrex Batt Charger issue

I do run my genset occasionally when underway for AC power. That's how I discovered the Pronautic overheat issue. The ABYC tech said they see it all the time. It runs hot and needs a cooling fan. On the list.....
