    Marinas in South/North Carolina

I have had 2 boats that slipped at Wilmington Marine Center. Fran was a CAT 3 and my boat had 0 damage. There was another hurricane and another boat and no damage. The management at WMC was very good and nice to work with. I ended up at Port City in Wilmington for the hurricane that sunk the...

    Composting toilets

I can’t think of a more ignorant response. So the surveyor in your mind is an expert so his opinion is correct, end of story. Have you in your life blindly listened to experts? I did earlier in life but no more. I have learned that “experts” often times are self proclaimed and often times...

    Florida Boat Yard

I had my boat repainted at River Forest in Stuart. They sub everything out but there subs are very good. I was satisfied. Also I would have not problem recommending A&J in Manatee Pocket that is considered Stuart. On the west coast Owl Creek has a good reputation for paint work. I have used...

Power Cats vs Trawlers for Passage Making

Didn’t Ted Hood come out with a passagemaking Cat in the 60’ range?

    Seasonal transient, SE Florida

MM you are right to make arrangements ahead of time. Trying to get a slip on the fly in the winter in SE FL will leave you with not many choices. Jupiter and South is expensive. I like the Stuart area, has city amenities, nice restaurants, some sheltered water to run around in a runabout on...

Overtaking prohibited in vicinity of marina!

Steelydon, love your response. I to am a very conscientious boater and get very tired of the middle fingers and calls on VHF over a 6” wake. More and more of our society has unrealistic expectations on what is a legitimate problem.

    Sealove boat yard Daytona

I understand people’s warnings not to jump to conclusions but based on my experience the op’s post is entirely believable. The odd thing is that years ago I left my boat their for a month or so and they did Knick knacks on the boat and were very nice to deal with. I went back with a broke...

Has anyone gone across Okeechobee recently?

I am probably more cautious than most so factor that in. I would not do it with 1’ of clearance. There is debris and some rock that if you are not in the right place it will potentially wreck your running gear.

    Marina Frustration

Could be the City of Fort Myers has changed their stance on “liveaboards”. I looked all over the area for a slip a past winter and discovered that the Cape Coral side of the river had very strict live aboard rules. We could not stay on board for more than a week I think. If I remember...

It Pays To Pay Attention To Peggie

Peggy do you recommend the distilled white vinegar treatment for fresh water flush heads? Thanks for your contributions

    Game changer props!!

I was wondering the same thing since the blades are a continual “loop”. I would guess the divers would hate them. Looks like a pain to clean.

    Cruising West Coast Florida

Was planning on crossing the Okeechobee when i was down in January and to my surprise the lake level was low. I draw 5’ and the lake was at 12.28 at the time which I think translates to 6.24 or so on the main route. I didn’t want to take the chance. I am admittedly conservative but I heard...

    Nordy 120

Part of what I do is an excavation business. The general contracts never want to tell the customer no we can’t deliver in that time frame. The sign a contract that requires everything to go perfect (weather, scheduling, etc) for them to make it. Then they ride the subs to work all over top of...

    Okeechobee

I am at River Forest in Stuart and have to go thru 1 lock to go east. I am leaving on the 27th of December and wonder if the government shuts down will the locks be operating. Any of you remember if the Corp operated the locks in the last government shutdown. I guess that was around 98.

Why Millennials are not Buying Boats

I have 2 millennial daughters one is very productive and hardworking the other not as much. I also employ some millennials and I have some really good ones. I don’t think they are a bad generation at all. Probably the same percentage of go getters as the last 2 generations.

    Fort Lauderdale no pumpout?

My experience with Lauderdale Marina was so so at best. Gave me a slip with a broken power pedestal and said run the genny. I did so but they didn’t seem real concerned about pleasing their customers.

    St Augustine FL Inlet

I am by no means a local but have run that inlet several times. Last year being the latest time. Putting it simplistically isn’t the “rule” of this inlet to favor the reds. I don’t know about some of you all but sometimes it helps me to have a simple summation of what to do in troublesome...

    Broker experiences?

So what I hope I don’t come off too strong but a person with your mentality is the exact reason I don’t want someone who has no deposit in the game starting my engines and putting it in gear. You obviously don’t know big boats. Do you know how much a 3/4 line will stretch when you put an 820hp...

    I obviously made a mistake

I am open minded that I am making a mistake. But I never leave my ACs on dehumidifier or not when I leave the boat to go back home. I will tell you that I have to periodically clean mold off of wall paper in certain areas. For some reason the bow of the boat is worse so I leave a fan running...

    AC vs DC Davit winch

I have a davit with a 120V hoist. It does OK but it is hard on the braking system. I had the same davit for 10 years and replaced the hoist motor once. If you are anchored and your genny fails you got to go to plan b.

Summer Storage in N. or S. Carolina?

I used to leave my boat in Wilmington at Wilmington Marine Center off the Cape Fear river. My boats rode our Fran and another one (cat 3) without a scratch. Very good management and a yard on site. Haven’t kept a boat there in years but it is a known and proven hurricane hole

    ICW Jacksonville

I was southbound in January and followed the markers and all went well with little to no anxiety. I draw 5’. The current is swift. Active Captain helps with this and other trouble spots as well.
