Marine Trader DC Vs MT Sedan Handling

I searched the topic before posting and didn't come up with anything so...the new thread. I am looking to buy a 40ft trawler. Started with online research now out and about looking. Two recent boats I checked out a Marine Trader DC and a Marine Trader Sedan both 40 ft. While on the DC it was...

    Teak Question #4527

I noticed this as well too.....also I noticed that the sealant between the planks was often higher than the planks as in maybe old sealant wasnt removed or that the depth of the teak has been reduced too much from wear and refitting. I lean towards your assumption that the deck was loose and...

    Teak Question #4527

Yeah it auto corrected....teak is not preferred at all. I just found this boat and like many other things, but each time I looked at the deck my inner voice said......run!!

    Teak Question #4527

Thanks I will definitely look into the kiwi grip. I'm by no means set on a boat yet...for me real is definitely not a requirement. This one was found by accident and was worthy of a closer look.

    Teak Question #4527

Understood......most likely teak is not in my long term future.....id rather work with epoxies and awlgrip then what you just described. Again Im more for practical rather than pretty. I know the Taiwanese trawler builders prided themselves on the woodwork but its not for me.

    Teak Question #4527

Yes I will do a survey before a purchase.....just want to avoid that and walk away if something I myself see that doesnt pass the smell test through my own personal knowledge of basic mechanics, woodworking etc. before spending that money. Im not in a rush and want to call in an expert when the...

    Teak Question #4527

If I do a purchase just for my own personal preference on this or any boat the teak's days will be numbered. I have no problem with the work but itd be more the stripping, filling, and awlgrip. The knocking around I did was from inside not the outside teak area, the question in my mind was how...

    Teak Question #4527

Yes it is an older boat. 1983. So basically the saturation is "normal" as long as the wood is not mushy? Also it looks as though on most of the exposed screws (I'll look closer if I go back) there was still depth there (like something was missing) rather then nothing left to work with. Aside...

    Teak Question #4527

So I know there is tons of info on the subject as I have searched and read pros and cons. I have recently begun to step aboard trawlers for a future purchase. For my own personal reasons of not wanting teak I have been avoiding boats that have it. Recently though, I found a trawler in good shape...

What is Market Offer vs. asking price on a Mainship 350 Trawler

Good approach since I think when many people list something they include emotions and maybe the amount of time and effort they put into it. Banks are going to go by the lend-able amount period. Banks definitely dont care about feelings.

What is Market Offer vs. asking price on a Mainship 350 Trawler

I may be wrong but I think that list price is the original price of the boat when it was first sold new. I had the same question as you looking at old boats on NADA and think adjusting for inflation, time, whatever that a boat like that new would cost the list price on "the show room floor" back...

Leaving boat on anchor long term

I live in the North Beach part of Miami beach. When leaving to cross to the mainland everyday for work I drive on a causeway/bridge. On one side is the pelican bay marina (which offers moorings and slips at Miami prices:eek:), on the other is just Biscayne bay. I do see the same 5 or 6 boats out...

    Financing a Boat? (was Insurance)

Anyone have a line on finance companies like the ones mentioned on page one.....that may be located in Florida or the southeast in general.

    Found: cheap kk42

Curious as to what level of fixing one would go through in order to own a unique boat such as this. Does that factor into the decision? like buying an old classic car that sucks, but youve always wanted one and there it is needing work. If KK42's are your thing does that also factor...

    Blue Water Capable

Thanks for all the input......I am definitely not looking to make a habit out of crossing oceans.....more like bouncing along coasts more like this route in summer times for the trip over: https://www.passagemaker.com/lifestyle/on-the-trail-of-vikings I plan to actually retire to sochi Russia...

    Blue Water Capable

Understand it will cost money but its going to hopefully be over a long period of time not all at once, but at a minimum I want to do some of Caribbean and Med......the rest will be dependent on funds, life occurrences etc.

    Blue Water Capable

Thanks for all the information.....I am asking for a particular reason......my plan is when the time comes I do want to travel A LOT....mostly what I buy will be used to bounce up and down coast lines east coast at first, Bahamas and such.....eventually though I do want to cross to do the same...

From west to east the northern route, upon return the portugal/azores/bermuda/US.....basically a boat capable of doing it all that is not a KK or Nord.

    Blue Water Capable

Been on TF for a bit now and have seen lots of great debate on many topics. My question is this......aside from Kady Krogans and Nordhavens, what are other boat brands that offer a trawler that can cross an ocean without the added price for just those two name brands?

    Have you had one?

When I do go to buy with my budget Im gonna have to rename myself McLovin LOL:rofl:

    Have you had one?

Thanks all......I just saw the smaller models with the outboards and then this. Ive seen many of the models on repeatedly on the "for sale" listings but the first for this name brand.

    Have you had one?

Anyone have experience with this boat brand boat model......just looking on boat trader and out of all the "name brands" this seems rare. Ive tried to wiki it but no luck. https://www.boattrader.com/boat/1984-rosborough-rf-35-6950871/

Retire and buy a boat now?

Pretty much in the same shoes as the OP.....I was thinking this very answer until I came across yours. I was kicking around both "fixer upper" for my last 5 years or save the cash and buy new. Your summation exemplifies what I decided would be the best course of action for me.

    Cat 3406 td

Does running the engine at the low RPMs have any adverse effects?
  25. C

    Cat 3406 td

@Taras so theoretically despite the twin engines running at a speed of 7 to 8 knots would enable a boat such as this to have quite a bit of range depending on fuel capacity of course. I keep getting beat over the head about two engine garbage fuel efficiency and it is good to here from someone...
