Switching between a lifelong aviation experience to boating

My wife and i are both helicopter pilots and the disciplines experienced with air flight are very similar . Reading charts and plotting course are close to the same. reading the weather and making the go no go decision is used frequently .We also use the same checklist format so things are the...

    My confidence is being effected.

Have you been having multiple failures to cause this anxiety ? When we are traveling my confidence in the boat and systems do not cross my mind. The only anxiety i have is with other boats who seem to want to run head on instead of adjusting there coarse and ferries that always seem to be...

We had a very experienced person give u a question and answer session at the North Pacific gathering last weeked and the subject of holding tank smells came up . He said the standard go to product was Tide laundry soap. He made sure to clarify it was the granular . About a cup flushed in the...

I told her I didn't want to buy a boat!

I think you will be fine since you are asking the questions. Its the folks who think they know everything i worry about. A lot depends on your experience and training in your life so far. If i was advising a 20 something i wouldn't know where to start. My wife and i have been in heavy...

    Help choosing 15hp dingy motor

The tohatsu has a garden hose connection that is up high making it easy to connect the hose and shoot water through it. It seems like it would be easy to do in the water.

Is the Cat 3208 a "throw away engine"? I think not.

I think the throw away term came from ease of replacement . Back in the day we had a lot of equipment and trucks that used the 3208 non turbo engines. They kept original cat rebuilt engines on the shelf. We could buy a rebuild with a warranty cheaper than the parts and could have the rig back in...

Thanks. I think our boat club had an event there. I haven't been to the town for some time. I transported a boat there for the museum a few years ago but didn't go into town.

    conventional slip vs end tie

I looked at the slip and decided to stay where i am. The boat seems more protected. The slip they were offering ,while convenient for docking ,seemed to be the closest to the breakwater. Also it was on a different dock at the far south end of the marina. They are having an otter problem and the...

    conventional slip vs end tie

We actually left Elliot bay and are now in Desmoines marina. Been there since the first of the year. Were 4 boats from the end of the dock . I do need to confirm they are talking about moving us to the end of our current dock. One plus is our dock is in permit for complete replacement with new...

    conventional slip vs end tie

I current am in a conventional 50ft slip with plenty of room between me and the boat next to me. I got a note today from the marina offering me an end tie. The end is a T at the end of the dock so i would think 2 boats on the dock. It seems the end tie would certainly be easy to dock but would...

Installing bow thruster, variable speed worth it?

I really like variable speed. I think it depends on how big the thruster and your dock help. I have 170s that dont need to be ran very fast since there larger. It makes them almost silent when using. I dont have a lot of dock help so setting them on low and holding to the dock helps me with tie...

    heat ex changer flush question

My main thought is we are able to use the boat in the summer since we travel in the motorhome and also have a home in palm springs for the winter cold months. Our boat can sit for several months without running. I dont think i will flush after every run during the summer but if i am figuring on...
