    Adding cameras

Spend the money and get a proper fit for purpose marine camera. The cheap Chinese camera systems are designed for security not active situations like backing down (delays and reversed images on your display). The potential for confusion and damage will cost far more than a decent marine camera...

    Flir

Mine is the M232 which cost $3500. The M300’s came out a little later and I believe are twice the price. Edited to add the 232 is B & W pan and tilt

    Flir

I went with this one - With me it was a case of the Scotch you want to buy or the Scotch you want to drink … The camera on the port side of it is part of the Raymarine ClearCruise Augmented Reality (AR) system. Which is another very cool all weather collision avoidance and nav aid guidance...

    Flir

I hedged my bets and installed a FLIR and Radar as not being a professional seafarer I’m not that confident using my radar alone in fog, at night or in bad weather. I didn’t think the price was that prohibitive considering. Would’ve liked to go for the color FLIR but that was costly.

    Pulling up the teak

Never been a fan of exterior teak. And after seeing those photos not about to become one any time soon. When recently adding teak to my decks (with great trepidation) I told the yard not one plank can be open to the elements..

    Ballast (again)

I had 400lbs added under the bed in the guest cabin which is directly opposite the galley due to a starboard list. It’s held down with flexible construction adhesive. I think the designers did their balancing math with 2 x 200lb bodies permanently asleep…

    Pulling up the teak

I just had my decks done with teak. I was never a fan of teak but had no choice as the faux teak laminates were not guaranteed to go the distance either. What I found interesting was the shipwrights bonded the teak plank’s to a single piece of marine ply sheet and then bonded the ply to the FG...

    Garmin, Furuno or Raymarine?

Everything in electronics is pretty much on par with only personal preferences to guide you. I went with Raymarine last year as I wanted to also stick with the same brand. I bought a new FLIR, Quantum 2 Radar, AIS, Clearcruise with Raymarine camera, 12” + 16” Axioms and Autopilot which are all...

    Hull Slap

Just fired off an email to the shipwrights doing some major mods to my boat now. You just gave me an idea for my next project. My wife can’t stand the noise, and unlike most of the lucky guys here, I ain’t about to convince her to stop using the guest cabin as our master until the noise is...

    Hull Slap

I’m glad this subject came up. My boat has been trucked to a shipwrights for a transom modification. Might ask them while it’s there for their suggestions on a solution. Personally I don’t mind the slap but the wife hates it to the point where we sleep in the guest cabin. Happy wife happy...
