We passed by many years ago on our way from Chuuk to PNG but I can’t help you much with useful information. Enjoy your visit!

    Hello from sunny Thailand

Welcome! I lived in Phuket for 19 years and was very active in the boating community however we’ve now been back in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for the past 17 years so my experience is dated... Anyway, enjoy. It’s a beautiful area to cruise!

    The perils of Stabilizers

I advise against drawing any conclusions without more information. For what little it is worth, I have been around the world and then some on vessels with active fin stabilizers with no mishaps and on a number of vessels with cored hulls. These are not unusual and like every aspect of any boat...

    Cat D353?

I don’t have much to add however I remember them as sturdy, reliable engines that would run “forever”. I like the lower RPM range and would see air start as a bonus. As long as you have a tank of air you will get her started...

Need for Halon or Fire Bouy System on Diesels

I have been involved in a couple fires at sea, with diesel engines. IMO every engine room should have a fixed suppression system...

    Interesting boats

Actually Indonesia is where I was. But I hear you. I thought there was a bit of stock and expertise in your neck of the woods but maybe no longer... I ran that boat throughout Thailand, Burma (Myanmar), Indonesia and PNG. Good times... Based at of Bali for quite a while.

    Interesting boats

I had a boat with twin 8L3B Gardners, same engine just two more cylinders. I was able to find what I needed, mostly ordered from UK. Lower RPM with individual cylinder heads and decompression levers. Great engines.

    Interesting boats

Both the Corten steel hull and the Gardner engine are pluses. The Gardner is the L3B series which is better than the LXB series, though I like both based on experience. Asking price may be a little steep though...

    Waste Water Tank Size?

“ The pee gets dumped over the side, many put it down their head sink so as not to enrage others.” Sorry, but the idea of filling the sink’s P-Trap with pee is a no go for me... Yeah, of course you flush it with fresh water but still...

Terminology teak rungs on trawler mast stays

Perhaps nitpicking but “stays” run fore and aft while “shrouds” run to the sides and might have ratlines or boards...

Fishing boat in trouble off south padre island tx

I would call that more “on” South Padre Island than “off” South Padre Island. I know, cheap comment but not much else to say. I’m just guessing here but as she is bow on to the beach it looks more like someone fell asleep and drove her ashore. If she was disabled and drifted ashore I would...

    Strangers getting on my boat

When I was young we lived aboard in a marina in Coconut Grove, Florida. To date myself, this was in the 1960's. One day a couple walked down the dock, stpped to look at our boat and then stepped aboard. My parents were shocked but somehow held their composure and let them look around. During the...

    Greetings...

Firehoser75, your advice is spot on. Actually, I've given similar advice to others on boats. I see every boat as a collection of compromises and when you gain one attribute you lose another. We are very clear on how we would use it, which will be just the two of us with occasionally another...

Bayview, thanks for the good advice. We are in no rush and plan to look at many boats before buying. "Buy your last boat first" is a great way to look at it. Thanks, Matt

    Greetings...

Thanks for the welcome! There's always things to learn and different ways of doing things, which is why I'm here. Hopefully it will help us make a good choice when we finally become owners. Understood on pictures but we will have to actually buy a boat first! ;-)

    Greetings...

Hello all, I've just joined so time to introduce myself. I grew up on and around the water in South Florida, messing around with boats of all sizes. Having lived around the world, we are now back in South Florida. Professionally I have been a sea goung captain of commercial vessels and large...
