    High Oil Pressure- Yanmar 6LYA-STP

I would change the oil and filter again before anything else. Overtime low oil pressure is bad but a little high I wouldn't worry and especially wouldn't start pulling the motor apart without first doing another oil change. Did you do the oil change and if not maybe the wrong viscosity was used...

    Toyota Luger engine

Toyota is Hino which is used on many Bayliners. Interesting I see the photos it does say Toyota Lugger. This may have been before Hino so maybe it was Lugger that marinized the engine.

My John Deere decided to take some time off

You could use reflective insulation behind the ECU as well.

My John Deere decided to take some time off

So it hasn't failed since you zip tied it off the mounting bracket? I would just make a non heat conducting stand off so it is spaced off the original mount and also add a fan. I would also be calling boat tow and getting a refund from them.

Yes good point I forgot we were talking about engine surveys.

    Engine survey question

I think this all depends on someone's level of mechanical experience. I would agree that a survey may not be needed if you understand what you are looking at and looking for. There are many times however where it's required by insurance and it has to be done by a certified surveyor not a self...

    Grand Banks 52 Alaskan

I think they meant just that. You still are not commiting to a purchase even with a signed agreement you just add pending survey results to the addendum and anything else you want such as insurance addendum etc..

    1985 Ocean Alexander

First time hearing about makrolon. Looks like a hard thick plastic? What are the additional benefits?

    1985 Ocean Alexander

No you are not crazy as there are many of these era boats around and are plenty good. Just all depends on how well it maintained by the previous owner. Is there a listing you can post?

    I think I just bought a boat.

Diver seems to be more expensive than just pulling the boat and they can't do much down there. I would get it hauled and skip the diver if you haven't already had him down there. Do you have any photos to upload? I think I speak for everyone that we would love to see the boat

Soft Deck - CHB 34 Sedan

Same area and issue on a boat we are in the process of buying. Apparently this is a common area for boats to have soft spots. I think it's from the deck hardware leaking and also from the stress on the area with the windlass pulling anchor. The boat we are looking at had a survey from about 7...

My journey from Ensenada to Vancouver BC begins!

I just did Astoria to Port Angeles which was pretty uneventful. Westport to Neah Bay is the longest stretch with no stops other than La Push which I wouldn't recommend going into. Can be tricky and not much space.

1986 Kia Sheng 43' Sundeck Trawler

I think this post originally was looking like some sort of spam post and that is where some of the harassment may have come from. Since I did find the link to your boat I wanted to post it so that everyone knew there was actually a boat for sale.

Replacing old equip with newer used equipment

In that case I would recommend using it on a tablet as more of a dedicated chartplotter and just see how you use the boat and then make your decisions. Using old equipment would not gain anything and just cost more. This is what I did with my first boat when we bought it a few years ago and it...

Replacing old equip with newer used equipment

If your staying local to the sound just get a tablet and run navionics. Do you have a standalone depth sounder? If so then navionics and the depth you'll be good to go for a very low price.

    Opinions on makes

I have spent a good amount of time looking at many boats from the 80s and it all comes down to maintenance and care. You really just need to figure out your needs and stay in that window and find something that works for you and then start digging into it with surveys or however you want to do...

    Engine survey question

As far as I know it's legit and we checked it on the one I'm buying and also shined a flashlight to check for smoke out of the fill cap as well.

    Engine survey question

Sorry I should clarify that it was done on a gas engine and I didn't do a compression on the diesel we are buying

    Engine survey question

I did a compression test when I boat my current boat and the buyer did one when he bought it from me. Compression test is a normal thing nothing excessively intrusive.

    Engine survey question

It all comes down to what you are paying at what your level of knowledge and comfort are. We had a fantastic Cummins mechanic look at our and as I said if he hadn't been there I may have only done engine oil samples but he is saving us now that we know the transmission oil sample was bad so the...
